Iburst is going one way

Just about every company in sa rips off it's customers as it seems to be the "done" thing here, but as far as the iBurst system goes it is a good system, just a pity it's not been run properly here.

Marine1, I agree with MrH here. iBurst is doing great in other countries, especially in Australia. It's because of poor management that so many problems arise here in SA.

So, I'm probably one of those who say iBurst is great no matter what. The thing is, iBurst IS a great system, but the company itself isn't.

So you are promoting a company that has terrible service and rips off its customers? Maybe you are getting financial gain from it? Are you maybe a reseller? Then why don't you also have a link to Telkom?

marine1, now thats not a fair statement, what options do we really have in this country, besides the system is good as already stated.

As for Telscum, we all know they are by far the leading ripoff in the country.

Some people just say Iburst is great no matter what. Just look at your sig.
They are ripping us off.

Just another quick note to you Marine1. While there may be people who say iBurst is great no matter what, there are also those, like you, who say iBurst is terrible no matter what.

Lets try to clear this up once and for all:

If iBurst works well in your area WITHOUT an antenna then the odds are it will work well most the time, UNLESS wbs/iburst start fiddling/messing with the towers or system.

IF you need an antenna to get a fair signal then the odds are at some time or another you will have problems.

(I hope anyone thinking of getting iBurst keeps this in mind, make sure that your test signal is between 800kbps to 1mbps WITHOUT an antenna when the test is done, if not then you are walking into this deal knowing very well what you could expect in the future.)

I give credit where credit is due, Like for eg. Shaun green. He is great and makes Iburst a better company in my opinion. But What I find interesting is that if anyone comes here with a problem, certain Iburst punters (maybe because of kickbacks or something?) shoot those people down. Their intentions are far from honest. I do not have a problem with Iburst signal, just their pricing going up when everyone else is coming down.
If someone works for Iburst or is selling their product then it should be known and then the new people here can judge for themselves without having some rep. spew out PR.

I "shoot" iBurst down often, but ONLY because of them been incompetent, and yes SG used to be helpful but since Ed left he tends to avoid problems that are brought up here that need sorting out.

As for anyone here getting kickbacks, well I highly doubt that and I'm pretty sure GBM certainly is not.

Their pricing falls in the standard "sa rip-em-off" I agree, but to be fair that is the sa standard and after all just remember telscum are involved in those costs whether you like it or not.

EDIT: had to make a slight change to the first line since I misread marine1's post and changed "shoot them down" to "shoot iBurst down".
I have never "shot down" any new user as most here will know.

Hey DarKWateR how long have you been with iBurst?

The thing with iBurst is when it works it's better than most internet connections, but unfortunately most of the time it s not working as it should - due to unschooled network technicians...

At present in Cape Town area:
1. VoIP is the worst it has ever been
2. P2P non-existing
3. International browsing is really slow
4. Local minor downloads are good
5. Local browsing is ok

2 Months - Month 1 = great, Month 2 = crap

2 Months - Month 1 = great, Month 2 = crap

As a matter of interest, how far are you from the tower, what sort of signal strength and are you using an antenna?
Also whats the best and worst speeds you have had when NOT capped? (except for a few weeks ago when CT was totally messed up for all users including myself)

Reason I ask is that CT seems fine my side and if you have a good signal strength with no antenna and within 2km of your tower with no real obstructions then you should also not be having problems, unless your tower is overloaded or maybe been messed up with all the fiddling iBurst have been doing a few weeks ago.

I'm only talking about local and international speeds when browsing, uploading and downloading, not VoIP or P2P or torrents.

My speeds/connection have been pretty good for most of this month. Better speeds than I've been able to get in a while.

Occasionally its been bad.. not ever sure what the problem is anymore.

"40Mb Broadband bundle"

Im officially convinced that Iburst management consists of hamsters that run on exercise wheels with one of those wheel of fate discs on it. which ever the wheel stops on is their revolutionary new offering.

The hamsters are of course necessary because no one else at iburst knows how to take responsibility of spinning the wheel.

If they made that 100mb for R49/month, it would look a lot better.

You can at least do a few emails and a bit of browsing on 100mb... but it would probably still have to be confined to back-up use.

40mb is just too little to get anything done across a whole month, they could at least market the package properly, i.e NOT as broadband for use on its own.

yea, unfortunately it just looks like an underhanded scheme to get people to spend money on overpriced booster packs.

Not to mention the new 'connection fee' of R99 and the penalty you must pay when downgrading a package.

Eish, iBurst is really trying hard to get rid of all their existing & new customers - they might just succeed. :)

Thats the funny thing.

Someone in the News section worked it out: If you use this package and a 1Gig booster, its cheaper than their 500 + 200mb package. So you get 1040mb for less than the 700mb package.

Not a bad idea.
