After more than 2 years I am done with Iburst. They summarily cut me off yesterday and I had to wait to today to find out they claim I did not pay some connection fee back in 2005. FFS 2005 and they cut me off now? I paid the R114 because I need my Iburst (work from home) and I can not easily prove I did pay it back in 2005. I had to drive to a friends place to send the files to make a deadline.

And its not the first time I had to go to a friend or a cafe: Also the absolutely horrible service the past few months... VOIP is unintelligible with all the packet losses and errors. I have to drive to friends to do conference calls and have to pay overseas calls on my cell. Staying connected is a mission on its own - it drops without disconnecting every hour or so. Running a keep-alive pinger got my account closed for being a DOS attack criminal.

A few months ago I got cut off for not paying my Iburst Modem ... WTF??!! I have been a customer at the time for just over 2 years. I used my 2020 credit card originally to buy the modem. They have closed down ... I could not prove I paid for my modem. I refused to pay it again and told them straight to FO with that. How can your accounting suddenly realise after 2 years I did not pay and then demand payment?

Anyway I need options. I can not continue with this frustration and aggravation. I need a service that gives me 18hrs a day uptime, with reasonable VOIP, and reasonable upload/download speeds.

I am praying and begging every god / demigod / deity in this universe and out to give us fibre at home and smite these demons to the fires of hell.

Theres Mweb and Telkom's WiMax, but they probably won't be very different from ADSL wrt pricing. It is mobile if you really needed that, but they seem to only be doing fixed installation atm.

If you're in Pretoria then Goal finally launched their service. Very dissapointing compared to what they initially claimed (30mb/s etc) but it is actually cheaper than ADSL...

And of course Neotels WiMax which might actually be different.
