iBurst launches iCall special

The problem with skype is that it is too expensive when calling to regular phone lines. I use icall, and I am very happy. the quality is great. The only problem is that it is kinda hungry on bandwidth. It use about 80kbps up and downstream. If you are out of your cap, and the connection is throttled, the call breaks up, as it is throttled at 64kbps. However, the person you are calling don't realize this, as the you are not throttled upstream. Skype on the other hand use about 20kbps upstream or downstream, but the quality is sometimes bad. I would like to see that that quality can be compromised a bit for lower bandwidth. That it s ao ption on skype, but I don't know if it will be possible on the SIP protocol icall use

I'd use skype, but I don't have anyone to call. Shame on you (to all my friends) who are to delayed/useless to get skype.

Maybe they should bundle all these new things they are launching into a special package called iDesperate

Skype is cheaper. Works well over iBurst.

And GizmoProject is free (if you keep inviting people...), uses SIP and Jabber and talks with Google Talk...

The bandwdth Skype uses depends on the codecs that was negotiated...

Some of the possibilities:

iburst in australia closed down. and redwood wireless in the u.s just choose wimax. guess it wil b c chain reaction...

Yip...definately chain reaction...
iBurps bandwidth still WAY too expensive...and iCall way too bandwidth hungry
No for me...

Cheap for hearing people but expensive for deaf people... is it nice for iBurst?

Same here - only 2 or 3 of my friends make use of it - 2 in the UK and 1 here.
The rest have DSL - even have Skype installed on their machines, but still want to pick up a Telscum phone to make a call.
Don't even get me started on GoogleTalk - only 1 in the UK that makes use of it.

I don't get these people and my throat is hoarse of trying to get them to understand!

/end derail

I use iCall a little (as well as a few other pay-for SIP providers). I find the call quality decent enough - better than my cell most of the time. Having a local dialable number is important to me so Skype is not an option. And its nice being able to call their call center for free when I have issues.

Just wish I could get it to integrate properly into my Trixbox
