Hi all

I have been with Sentech for approx 6 months, normal complaints on speed, performance and inability to browse overseas sites.I then joined IBURST in Jan. but on the first day with 100% signal the speed was so slow that "my wireless" looked more like a miracle.

My speed is terrible again, and I was wondering if I should not give IBURST a second chance. I live in Constantia Kloof (Roodepoort) opposite Makro. Can anybody please tell me if the speed issues for this area has been resolved ?

Help is appreciated

Andre

email iburst or look at the map on their site, concerning your signal and speeds

well I moved from Sentech to iBurst and am happy... okay I am paranoid... but I am happy 99.5% of the time with iBurst. Only thing that Sentech has that outperforms iBurst is their non-cap. But as I said before... iBurst is like a space shuttle and Sentech is like a bicycle.

Iburst Vs Sentech = not much competiton. Sentech sux! But i would phone them if i was you its no use having a package that dont work

thats because if there was a cap you'd never hit it

hypn: alot has changed since jan, they have sped it up for everyone by controlling the bandwith more and avoiding bottlenecks, I say give it a try

Hahaha

Pssstt ... over here <whisper>What about ADSL?</whisper>

Just had a look at your TCPiq stats ... HAHAHAHA, and you are actually trying to get this guy onto ADSL? :D

Speed

if you can see northcliff water tower then you should get good also up near gordon there is another water tower . this is where the base stations are near

i am down by little falls and get good speeds when other are not sucking up the band...............................................width . Get CiTc(wifionline) to go out to your place and do a test.

yeah look from 130 with iburst to 30 or whatever ADSL users get is a bit of a leap... however ADSL is definatly proven and no matter what telkom does with it it will remain. And because of the high number of ADSL users compared to other broadband alot more companies will provide 3rd party solutions. For me everything has changed since we are capped, this time last week I would have laughed at harth, this week he may have a point. I say if you are not used to speed above adsl, get adsl uncapped untill one of the other broadband solutions offers uncapped again (which shouldn't be long) but comparing iburst with sentech is like havign a fight between a 20 year old tyson and a 5 year old crippled girl with bad eyesight

harth: you must be blind having a font that big

Sentech is uncapped, but at what speed? After downloading 500kb of a file you are throttled anyway.

So, for that matter, is Iburst uncapped, but at 64kbps.

The number of basestations in JHB have almost trebbled since January, so your signal strength may be very different from your earlier experiences.

check the sentech website, if you can. iburst isn't currently uncapped. well, that is to say excluding their problems, the "cap" is supposed to be 3GB standard. afterwhich you are supposed to be throttled down to 64kbps :( when you have reached your "cap"

you can check the iburst website to see where the basestations are, coverage maps, and network uptime.

no he's not saying iburst is uncapped, he's saying sentech is so slow that effectivly you are capped (throttled) as soon as you get it, remember with sentech you share your data line with other users, so imagine sharing a 128 line with 5 people if you were to compare that to say iburst when it is throttled, iburst looks uncapped in comparison. As far as the iBurst network goes, it can't be beat in terms of speed, we've all been feeling it, nay sayers predicted by this time we'd all be getting crappy sentech speeds but I load high graphic sites instantly, I download at 130KB/s + my single thread speeds to the worst international destinations is better than 512 ADSL to local servers. and of course after you're capped you get your own 64k line for international and local traffic (no other capped package matches that) and my "64k" when I was capped, even though I wasn't capped for long was actually more than 64kbit.

we're just pissed because we were spoiled with 1mbit speeds and uncapped traffic for months, which was great and I cant wait to get it back, but aside from glitches with the new cappign system iBurst beats everything except uncapped adsl (well it beats uncapped adsl in price).

I was just reading old posts when we were asking WBS on this forum for more than a 3GB package and the ability to buy more Gbs after the cap, and they complied so I think its a matter of time before we get some way to be uncapped (probably a seperate package) and when that happens iBurst will be 10 steps ahead of uncapped adsl.

Lets not forget the reason there are so many pecimists around wireless is because of sentech so if you can't get adsl uncapped or dont want to consider it because of cost or whatever get iBurst its a no brainer

Slimothy it's 2 AM go to bed! I want to turn out the MB lights till 6 AM tommorow morning.

I am waiting for blade trinity to download so I can watch it before I sleep :(

I will be brave

Thanks for the help guys. I will give Iburst a second try. :)
