Sentech or other
As this is about opinion, heres my 2c.
I use adls at home and Sentech classic for the last 2 years. Now, no snow blinding the fact that Sentech isnt an alternative to adsl etc, but I think that was the point. If you just want connectivity and you roam in the coverage area, Sentech is more than adequate. Do I work for Sentech, No.. I have had my screaming matches with them more than most, but what I am trying to say is: Come to grips with your options in South Africa, and when you have identified what you need, your choice should be clear.
My check is based on:
1) Cost
2) Bandwidth
3) Support
And all the other arb things that just make up my mind. I have never tried Iburst, because what I understood was that it was capped at 3Gb. Sentechs fair usage says 3Gb a day (I thinks it 2Gb now).. ok, no one will ever get there thanks to their contention, but again... WHAT DO YOU NEED INTERNET FOR?
1) Just to check emails? Get a 3g modem
2) Play games...... ADSL.. you have no choice, but are limited to a fixed location
3) Downloads? Well I download from Sentech at a decent speed of 20 - 25Kbs on a 256k option. I have no problems really.
Again.. if you want a practical answer on whats the best.. Only you can decide. Sentech is unfortunately a victim of the South African market being starved of choice, and offering an 'alternative' that was bound to experience hicups especially in the beginning. If iburst was here first.. the shoe would be on the other foot. Who do I have my money on in the long run... well definately Sentech, but who knows.. its not a race, and maybe both still surprise the adsl market soon.
Here is a better solution to everyones problem.
Get some or other leased line with a huge bandwidth, share costs and wirelessly network it amongst yourselves (if you are all within same area)
2c spent.
