iBurst plans 20 000 Internet Cafes

20 000 Internet cafes ... that's one heck of a lot of cafe's

What are costs involved? Anybody know how much it costs to set one up?

Great idea though!

We have tailor-made packages available allowing you to convert an existing Café into a Internet Hotspot, or get an Internet Café up and running from as little as R14 000-00

R14 000 is just for the Iburst Modem, Software (not sure what) , Training and website.

Guess the other R16 000 is for a couple of PCs and other things to get it going.

Internet Cafe setup costs

I think this is completely unrealistic. If you look at the current numbers I estimate there's could be as much as 400 to 500 Internet Cafe's in the country. This is excluding the Wifi hotspots. My definition is a business where the primary income is the sale of internet access per hour.

Anyway I am going to look into this in a big way and report back to you guys. All I can say for now is that the Tradepage role seems suspect. It could be they want to leverage their "directory" of clients into setting up wireless networks.

To me there's a lot of things missing from the website. What about the management software to manage the airtime? If they already have a system which can be quickly installed and up and running with minimal training that's great. Because it'll be more complexity for staff if the "airtime" is billed separately.

I'm building a new Internet Cafe in Rondebosch and have pretty much made up my mind to go with uncapped ADSL.

cheers
Ramon
