iBurst problems update

Lol some people around here are STILL defending iburst after all their lies, they even lied that there was no fees payment issues several times before this and yesterday they lied that it was a power outage.

A lie is a lie,if they were not sure they could have simply said we are busy investigating and could have released preliminary findings when they had some idea, but hey I bet they really did have an idea but just decided to lie anyway.

Then yesterday after multiple sources let out the word including the DA that the equipment had indeed been confiscated they realized they could not keep on lying so after a good nights rest they decided to finally come clean.

I don't use iburst but geez I hate it when companies lie left right and center its pathetic.

The plot thickens.

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) may lay criminal charges against Thami Mtshali, the CEO of Wireless Business Solutions (WBS), after the company, which owns iBurst, allegedly replaced equipment the telecommunications regulator confiscated on Wednesday, so that it could continue providing services to its customers.

I heard its not because of iBurst, but actually Broadlink involved in some frequency spectrum dispute thing with ICASA. ICASA attached some of Broadlink's equipment, on which iBurst apparantly runs in the background. Also, some Vodacom clients on microwave are also affected, as Broadlink provides some services to them.

Thanks ShaunSA.

The order, obtained on 6 March at the high court in Johannesburg, prevents WBS from conducting business using radio frequency spectrum that Icasa claims it is using illegally.

Now iBurst have once again been proved to be dishonest. I will advise anyone using their services to GTFO iBurst and move ASAP.
Not so simple if you are using an iBurst email address or their VOIP though.

Now why could ICASA not have gone public about the court order, and/or about intending to take action, and/or tell the public when they took action. ICASA it seems were acting within their mandate, no problem with that

Now assuming the court order specifies cease and desist on wireless, why did they take out the other services, inconveniencing iBurst users? Yes, technically it was the easiest way to stop them operating, but maybe a bit more consideration of the impact?
Why does it take 2 days for them to make any statement about it?

Thanks ShaunSA.

To whom? Already have Cell C 3G, no ADSL in my area, other wireless services very limited. :/ iBurst was slow but at least consistent and cheap.

Now, can someone please explain what a "core fibre switch" has to do with a wireless licence... So did Icasa want to kick them in the balls or just annoy them?

Well, in essence it seems there are hundreds of illegal links. While they could have confiscated these (and should have, as these are the base of the issue), it would take days and much manpower to achieve, that is assuming they were given access by third party high site owners and/or customer premises. Therefore, it makes more sense to simply cut the connectivity off at the core and 'down' the wireless network.

Have you actually tested the 8ta network in your area physically with an 8ta data only sim?

In many areas their website shows no coverage but there actually is coverage in reality,Ive been using their network in one such place for over a year already reliably with decent speeds also.

Do you know if you can request 8ta to go to your area to test whether you have good coverage? My brother really needs proper affordable internet, no ADSL available.

Not sure, but its way easier to just do it yourself, pop into any telkom store or big retailer that sells 8ta sim cards (normally R1 lol) and rica it and then just check if you get network in your area that you want to use it.What I did was just use like R30 airtime and buy a small data bundle to do a few speeds tests on my cellphone during the cause of a day or two at different times.

Thats the safest easiest way in my opinion.
