Iburst Reaches 2400 KB/sec

I was up surfing at 2 am and my iburst was possessed by supersonic speeds.
As the downloaded started it would run at 2400 k/s. Real 2400 K about 7 megs in 3 seconds.... :eek:

Then slowly go down to about 1500 k jump around there for a bit there - ref to pic.

This is the kind of line i want 24/7!!!!

It would slooowly start droping of to 150k 250k and sit. Most of the time downloads where finished before it got to that stage...

What speeds are you normally experiencing with iburst? Can u recommend them? How much did your setup and package cost?
 
Cool - but wouldnt this thread better serve the iBurst forum?
 
hj2k_x - Well normaly i get like 40K - 80k odd. All depends on time of day and where the download is coming from. Also if i have hit my cap i get like 10 -15 k and on bad days 3-8k.

I pay R550 a month. 3 gig cap. When i hit my cap its not that hectic. Not like ADSL where apparently you cant surf international sites full stop. Well this is what i have heard.

yeah, well wait till iBurst kills your connection once you hit your cap...

Listen you got it all wrong. It has nothing to do with the wind or moon.
The speed of the taxi drivers causes the signals to move faster at certain time depending on the heat of their breaks .If they have any.
 
im not sure if the humor is becasue you dont belive it but it did actually go like that.

it was 2am on some arb week night. It was a clitch in the matrix ;)
 
Thats "glitch".

Look iburst has its ups and downs, for certain ppl it is viable for others it is Definitely not. It depends on what you use it for and where you are situated.

I would say in general:
Iburst is not for P2P (it can be done but isn't worth it)
Iburst is not for gaming
Iburst is not for people using more than 3gb (either you pay to much / or you get disconnected and have to call be black listed and blah blah blah)
Have a look at a pricing comparison I did for ADSL vs iBurst
If your signal sucks then iBurst is not for you ;)

Although some of use get 80ms local ping so we can game, and 8K internat on p2p and faster to other ibursters local. So in some cases the comparison should be made with 64k leased line.
 
I find p2p really easy to do as long as you can get a reliable Proxy, like open web or nukecap. Almost any P2P apps will work then and you get pretty good speeds.

Thanks for that! Just some points:

With ADSL you also have the monthly basic line rental of +-R100.
What value do you place on the continued access (at 64kbps) via Iburst after reaching the cap?
On the 9gig package, p2p is unshaped.
Can you also do a comparison just with monthly running costs, assuming the service is already installed, and equipement is owned?

Iburst tends to sometimes do this, ha,the one time I was capped so I decided to download the update and was downloading at 11000kB/s:D and it happened again a month ago, I was downloading an 11meg file, it downloaded too fast for me to click Print screen to get the screen:eek: I might still have the image of what i did get but i think it was when it was already finished so its really hard to tell but I have a screenshot of when I was downloading at over 800 000 KB/s a second:D I'll try post it tomorrow
 
hmm... 2400kb/s is almost 20MB/s connection speed. Is than even possible on the network and with the modem? Shurley the basestations bandwidth isn't suffecient to carry that kind of speed for even a few seconds for just one user.

11000kb/s is 88Megabits. Can a wireless system even carry those kind of speeds, and could a internet server even provide those kind of speeds?

Yes but I am assuming that you would be paying that anyway as most people still use telephones.

I have not assigned a value to the 64kbps access afterwards as I have heard of people being cut off for using to much afterwards and I don't know how far over the limit you can go.

In my experience shaped p2p on adsl isn't really shaped and can be considered not shaped in comparison to the 3gb and 6gb iburst accounts.

I will put a few extra comparisons in.

I also believe that it is not possible to buy more than 9gb with iBurst (from 3rd party statements)

No dude 2400kbits/s is 2.3mbits/s and 11000kbits/s is 10.7mbits/s

In the original post all the figures were quoted as 2400KB/s (note the caps) I thaught they ment that was their download speed, not connection speed.

The pic he gives is the Firefox download manager showing 1500KB/s and that is your true download speed, in kilobytes per second.
 
It is impossible for (current) iBurst modems to reach 1536 KB/Sec = 12 Mbits/s (as per the screenshot) ... theoretical max is 360 * 3 = 1080 Kbits/s

Me thinks you were downloading local cache copy of something.
 
That cant be... only a tiny bit over 1mb/s? My connection has bursted to overthat during downloads and I've seen alot of speed tests go over 1080kb/s (unless you mean 1080KB/s download speed) on Iburst.

If WBS want to upgrade to 2mb/s they arent going to get new modems for everyone so obviously the modems are able to work at up to 3mb/s or so.
