iBurst recognized as global standard

Yay, we might see this technology move forwards now.

I wonder how this been made a standard effects people who are under pressure from Iburst to give up domains like iburstlive.co.za ?

hopefully now, cheaper modems made by third parties, not proprietary Kyocera modems.

Pity their infrastructure, marketing and pricing is so third world.

They way forward remove telkom (or drop prices at least by halve) that includes you iburst

Does anyone know if a competitor can be set up using the iBurst Technology or if WBS have the sole rights for the technology in South Africa?

The bandwidth costs are one thing, but if it is a standard it means that the standards document can now be bought from the ITU/IEC/ISO AFAIK, allowing the Chinese to make a lower cost modem.

I, for one would embrace an OEM version of the iBurst modem.

As mentioned, all roads lead to SAT-3 held to ransom by TELSKOM, so doesn't matter what medium you use, you're gonna pay thru your a$$
