ok I learnt now that iburst does not have a router

It has a desktop terminal, how can I have more than one computer
connected to a switch share the connection please

Thanks you
DD

Buy a router, preferably a wireless one.

They usually boast a WAN port and 4 ethernet ports, and come with setup software.

The setup software usually detects the router and allows you to change settings.

Give the router an IP address (one that matches your network range)
(From then on you can usually http to the router with your browser)

Plug the router into your network.

Plug the I-burst Modem into the Wan port, HTTP into the router and setup a PPPoe connection using your Iburst login and password.

Check with Iburst, you may have to specify the DNS entries on the router.

On networked machines specify the router IP address as the internet gateway, and as the DNS entry.

You should also be able to block certain ip addresses in the router if you want to stop people having access.

can I achieve this with a telkom billion adsl router

There is a way to use LAN port 1 as a WAN port...it is referred to as EWAN.

Plug the I-burst Modem into the Wan port1 (WITH RJ45 or USB), HTTP into the router and setup a PPPoe connection using your Iburst login and password.

You can achieve this by using the following billion models:

7402GXL – Supports the following
Product Model Wireless 802.11g No VPN USB Port for 3G Auto Fail-over

7402GX– Supports the following
Product Model Wireless 802.11g IPSec VPN USB Port for 3G Auto Fail-over

7402X– Supports the following
Product Model No Wireless IPSec VPN USB Port for 3G Auto Fail-over

Absolutely..i can recommend billion 400G,800VGT, 73XX AS WELL AS 74XX. For Billion 400G AND 800VGT please visit any telkom direct shop if you would like to purchase one.
ORLY? So: all of the above, which I presume to be ADSL-gateways have RJ45 connectors on their WAN ports do they? If so, what happen(s/ed) to the RJ11 that you would use, you know, for your ADSL line?

So, that aside, a D-Link DIR-300 will, unspectacularly, do the job.

I phoned Iburst re: adsl router billion 800 vgt and they said no
it will not work as it will try to do PPPoe via adsl and not Iburst

Has anyone had success with a adsl router

Thanks
DD

The 'net/WAN port on an ADSL router is an RJ11 - you would recognise it as a phone jack. What you want, as found on the DIR-300 et al is an RJ45 on the WAN port - it's the same network socket that you see on network cards/motherboards/network switches.

So I am correct then ? The billion 800vgt will not work ?

Just read the manual for 800vgt.It does not have a WAN port as required

I have spoken to Billion previously and there is a way to use LAN port 1 as a WAN port...it is refered to as EWAN. You'll have to check with them how this works though, I never tried to set it up.

Billion 800VGT Supports EWAN 100%..There's always a way of doing things like using LAN port 1 as an EWAN port, all you need is the script to convert Lan port 1 to EWAN, once that has been done you Plug the I-burst Modem into the Wan port1 (WITH RJ45 optional USB) ..no need to setup pppoe on the GUI, everything will be done on CLI..THE script will give you a detailed instruction on how to convert LAN Port 1 to EWAN as well as how to setup pppoe using your iburst login username and password.

So, in the name of furthering the MyBB KB and, as specifically to the benefit of Billion too, why not make that data public?

Forgive me for resurrecting an old thread, but I kinda have the same Q.

How do I change the Iburst terminal's IP? I have read the "help" on the router and they tell you how to change it, but I can seem to find the "edit" button or something.

I don't want to use a WAN router, as I have tested with an Asus one and my upload speeds when for a bowl of *****. I want to use ICS, but can't, cause the pc where I am going to share the connection,
is running windows XP. I don't/can't share it on my PC (win7), cause then I can't play CODMW2.
