A good friend of mine was spending R800 a month on dial-up. No ADSL in his area, but he also travels a lot. He only needed to buy a Bluetooth adaptor for R200 and he is now saving more than 50% of that cost by using his phone he already had on Vodacom GPRS. He is a very happy camper.Snowolf said:100 % for vodacom, I used to have ISDN (Is Stupid Dialup Network) that became so costly that I just had to switch it off.
ADSL (Another Dumb Service Lag) is not available untill 2007.. if ever.....
3G/GPRS offered me a great service at an affordable price.
To date i have managed to convince about 10 people to dump their connections and use GPRS and they are more than happy with it![]()
I have not seen any of these corperate giants even try offering us a solution. I live in a small village in the middle of nowhere and there are about 150+ internet users who are just waiting for an alternative to telkom.
VIVA VODACOM![]()
ScrnScrm, I know MyWireless (IPWireless) is a 3G off-shoot, but I was not aware that iBurst was in any way related to 3G, please clarify bcos I'mScrnScrm said:iBurst is a 3G network.... So what are you trying to say?![]()
iBurstTM
The iBurst technology is a wide-area mobile broadband technology offering a unique combination of high speed, wide range and high base station capacity.
The iBurst technology is a pure IP, end-to-end system built on two primary components: base stations deployed by a network operator, much like today's cellular services, and wireless modems or PC cards that a customer uses with an existing Internet appliance, such as a notebook computer, to access the service.
Unlike primarily voice networks such as GSM, CDMA and 3G standards - the iBurst technology has been designed from the ground up to provide pure data and with the incorporation of IntelliCell** technology it is able to provide the wireless data much more efficiently than the voice based cellular networks. As a result the iBurst network is able to provide data rates of up to 1 Mbps to each user with a maximum base station capacity of 20 Mbps.
**IntelliCellTM
The iBurst system is based on IntelliCell technology from ArrayComm in the US to attain the extreme levels of efficiency in usage of the available radio frequency.

The 3G Standard - The 3G Choice is CDMA
In 1999, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) approved an industry standard for third-generation (3G) wireless networks. This standard, called International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000), consists of 5 operating modes, including 3 based on Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology. These 3G CDMA modes are most commonly known as CDMA2000, WCDMA and TD-SCDMA.
Other competing standards
There are other competing 3G standards, such as CDMA2000 and proprietary systems including iBurst from Arraycom, Flarion and wCDMA-TDD (IPWireless). However, it is expected that 3GSM/UMTS will eventually inherit the global dominance of the GSM family to become the de facto global standard for 3G.
