Well this is wonderful, were now all stuck with a useless technology now that something better is out.

Look to be realistic, I think I will wait until my contract runs out and this Iburst will hopefully be so much faster.

I think everyone on this forum has had a bad taste of the early adopter bug and I personally am going to have to wait to see on this one.

I actually pray this works because maybe it will even jack sentech into gear and they can start delivering.

we have all learned. they will need a new batch of early adopters. all of us will probably "Feel the water" before jumping ship. The downside is thats when Sentech will get strict on cancellations.

I think we may yet be in for a few surprises. Once Sentech gets their act together, and sorts out their infrastructure, the potential of MyWi could still take a leap. My personal opinion is their pricing model may be MyWi's main drawback, once the competition sets in.

In the meantime, one should simply follow the press for further announcements and feedback on the tests. Hopefully issues at Sentech will have settled down by then, and proper comparisons could be assessed.

This thread is soooo reminiscent of the threads discussing the woeful ADSL offering and the childlike glee that radiated off all of us at the coming of SENTECH!!! Only then the high priest was called ProAsm and not Anakin....

Come on guys. Get real. The only guarantee we have here is that decent bandwidth is a long way off. Remember that ultimately Telkom controls internet bandwidth and as long as that is the fact, we will all continue to get screwed.

Why the hell can't the government control the internet pipe. Just buy the bloody thing from Telkom or whatever and just make the playing ground even for all. That way companies can compete based on service and not on how well they manage to get enough bloody facking bandwidth from Telsh1t.

Cuz they can't figure out a way to tax us for the use of oxygen, so they decided to rape us on everything else. Africa is an ass and this country is developing into one of it's many hemeriods.

A little bird told me that Sentech, IS and WBS are all working together to lobby the government into forcing Telkom to sell SAT3 access at wholesale prices to top tier ISPs. Their argument is that Telkom was still a parastatal when the SAT3 came into operation, thus the govt. still has a claim to the cable...

We can wait and see I guess...

It is quite an honour to be compared with one so great. [:D] The force is strong with him.

Here is the difference:

1. WBS is a lean, tight run PRIVATE company.
2. Rumour has it that UUNet will be doing all connectivity/support for iBurst.
3. The signalling technology at it's WORST (10Km) kicks IPW's ass in terms of latency.
4. These PCMCIA cards that did those longdistance hauls had a 2cm antenna on the card.
5. They don't have Winston Smith.

Too bad the website isn't working.

Is this perhaps a sign of things to come?

From chatting to WBS they'll only be going full commercial next year - if so I'm glad to hear it !

This means more extensive testing has been done.
This means more towers have been commisioned and tested (they want 30 in jhb live before launch).
This MAY mean more extensive testing with a larger beta test group.

I am very happy to see a company taking a responsible approach to launching a service.

I believe ICASA has approved their license change already - so this is 100% legit.

While pricing may not be cheap it would hopefully be competitive - and right now that is what we as end users require.

Just phoned them and informed them of the site problems. They will hopefully have it fixed soon.

WBS's web site has just gone live recently - they hadn't expected this sudden rush of hits as a result of the media. It is still under construction. However, if you need to contact them, email them at:

Rodent, you forgot to mention:

6. They don't have Winston Smith.
7. They've been doing the Lottery Network, I've been in their offices and was amazed by the number of nodes they had on their map..and all monitored 24/7 unlike Winston and co.
8. They don't have Winston Smith.

Let's hope they have the capital/investors to see this through and also buy enough bandwidth.

Did I mention they don't have Winston Smith ? [:)]
