Looks like iburst's upstream (verizon/uunet) is ONCE AGAIN stuffed up via miami...2nd nite in a row - call centre indicate no problem but it's not lekka...

ho hum ..

Just a note in case anyone else is having problems with SOME US sites.

I'm finding quite a few US sites that are either very slow or timing out, but UK sites seem fine.

Yeah the US sites aren't that great, but reasonable. Local is fine, UK is fine. Remember that this might not be Iburst related, but SAIX related. :)

Always good to take a look at the SAIX and Verizon noticeboards if theres a problem on their networks.

Then you should at least get an expected reasolution etc.

Well, actually no international problem could be an "iBurst problem" that doesnt stop it affecting iBurst users..

But I was just saying in general, its usefull to check those places if nothing shows up on the iBurst incident report.

iBurts utilises Verizon’s network...

iBurts utilises Verizon’s network as their main data carrier to the USA, although Verizon’s site reports that the error has been resolved it clearly hasn’t, also it seems they are experiencing SMTP issues, which was confirmed by the iBurst call centre.

In future save yourself the hassle of calling iBurst’s call centre, call Verison’s call centre on 086 008 8638 instead, they are knowledgeable, forthright and helpful. (Now that’s words you don’t often hear being associated with an ISP!) They also supply the estimated time of resolving the current network issue(s).

Uhm .... ok, as indicated in my initial post .. Verizon .. not SAIX.

I always call the Call Centre, not to find out about the fault but to inform them of it ;-)

Honestly, I don't CARE that it's an upstream problem ... iBurst is MY ISP and it needs to take responsiblility and be proactive.

Kind of what I was saying, but it is hard for iBurst. They have a pretty good upstream provider already in Verizon, and when they go down what can iBurst do?

I guess a backup should be in place, and already is in the form of IS afaik. But then the IS link is usually very crappy. Im not sure who else there is to use though?

I'm guesing a pure SAIX connection is too expensive, or not viable if its only for backup..

Dream on..

Good luck waiting for iBurst to inform you of anything, let me know if they do - cause I'll have to make sure I phone Guinness Book of Records, or maybe some church, think it could be classified as a miracle.;)

you cant blame iburst for this problem. if the verizon network has a problem, theres not much iburst can do about it.

I am not paying Verizon!

It is quite simple - iBurst offered me (instant, fast, wireless, etc.) internet connectivity, I accepted their offer and I pay them a handsome monthly fee for it!

Therefore it is their responsibility, you can’t just excuse them because they don’t have the necessary redundancy procedures in place, what are you thinking?

MORAL: If you cannot deliver the service, do not offer it! (or at least don't over promise and under deliver)

SIMPLIFIED: What you are saying is; you go buy six eggs at Checkers you get to the checkout and you look inside the container and there are only two eggs. You tell the manager hey, there are only two eggs in here. The manager replies oh well we are not responsible for our suppliers. - and you are ok with this.

That does not make sense!

I think the point is that Iburst can't just shrug their shoulders, put up their hands and say "Not us". They have to acknowldege that Iburst has a problem and at the very least relay the details of the Upstream fault to their clients.

It should be on the Iburst incident report

My monthly payment goes to Iburst, not Verizon.

All that's required is communication.

Sorry I cant relate to your story, I dont shop at Checkers.

Eggs is eggs...

Six eggs aren't two and they all look the same even those bought from Woolworths.

I will admit that those got from the farm might be a bit bigger and taste better.

;)

What do you want Iburst to do? They can't do a thing about it if Verizon has a problem on their networks!

1. Take responsibility
1.1 Inform their call centre of the problem
1.2 Have it under incidents reports

2. Reroute traffic
2.1 Use other peering partners

I must admit, the incident report on the website isn't that great....

But why are we arguing? The problem is fixed already isn't it?
