IBurst vs Sentech

iBurst is faster, sentech has a much higher cap. Both companies have good customer service, both can set you up within a couple of hours. iBurst has a wider coverage area

If you go with Sentech, give nowire.co.za a call, as they are a fantastc reseller

Iburst also ahs 64kb after cap.. take it into consideration.. how much yo ulookign to spend..because Sentech 128 kb is a bit slow. especially compared to Iburst.. but Iburst 9gig is really nice, faster (due to being unshaped.. maby) and p2p allowed etc.
And Iburtst is going places alot faster than Sentech it seems..

Ekhaatvensters :Well, the iBurst 9BG costs R1099pm, which is much more expensive
MyWireless is also unshaped, but their speeds are less than iBurst

I noticed on the iburst.co.za site that they have some massive lies

1GB = 2000 mp3's

That is the biggest lie I have come accross in a long, long time

1GB = 200 mp3's is closer to the truth, but the reality will be probably even less

Are all ibust mode 1mb/s if so we agree that it is the best and is it possilbe to upgrade the speed only on sentech eg:10g 512kbps.

Yah i know.. i posted that when they first put it up.. pretty terrible, i dont know how they can even work that out!

So how much is the 512kb MyWireless offering.. around R900 right?

Also Sentech still costs ALOT (it was always more than iburst right?) to get set up and Iburst is alot cheaper these days. If you are worried about once off capital costs that is..

ProjectX, it actually depends totally on where you are, and what you need or want from your connection.. would you like to elaborate?

Project X : No, if you move to a higher speed connection with MyWireless, you automatically get more gigs

Ekhaatvensters : The iBurst desktop modem costs R2190.00. The MyWireless desktop modem costs R2999. Both offer you finance options where the modem cost is built into your contract

MyWireless has a R199 once off setup/admin fee. Not sure about iBurst

Iburst has no setup or connection fe and deliver free of charge in one day as well.

But you can get cheaper modems too, and are those sentech ones even Ethernet or only USB?

But ja you right about the cap thing with sentech.. I think a 512kb or atleast 256 is pretty great deal. 128kb is way too slow, especially when things become degraded, 512kb with 40gig cap should be great.

Oh and ofcourse Iburst is a bit more mobile in that there are alot more towers and tons more coming up. As well as it being available in a few more cities now, and goign up in more over the next 4 months.

While I have personal issues with NoWire, they will perhaps give you a more personalised service than Sentech, and they do not charge for signal tests which Sentech direct do. iBurst I have serious issues about a lot of things in their set up ( a neighbour has just got iBurst) she was not well trained or well informed during set-up. Plus I believe her iBurst reseller tells her she cannot change the password they had set for her by default, which I find very ominous cos it is now surely a well kown secret?? where is the security?

Beware guys of the flexi packages which offer you set amounts and then pay per meg afterwards, you can run into trouble, and I do know that with Sentech, their "upgrades" run on speed not package, so for instance, all their flexi packages are 256 kb/s, and if you sign a two year contract and then find that you are over spending on a flexi package, you cannot upgrade to one of their "classic" packages before the two years is up.

Please be aware with NoWire (not sure if this is a Sentech thing too) even if your modem is under warranty, if it needs to be sent away for examination pending repair, you have to pay a sort of deposit of R600.00 up front...

All I am saying is that with both, read the fine print and insist that you be told everything twice over in detail (so you understand) by your consultant. Resellers for both are using people desperate for work with little to no sales experience and little to no broadband experience, minimal training and then they shove them out onto the street to do cold calling in a very competitive market where they have to rack up huge numbers to earn their commissions, so they are not that focussed on the quality of their service and sales. They have a huge turn around in sales staff and one has to ask why.

Oh by the way ... Sentech people .... what news on the promise that you are going to catch up with and indeed overtake iBurst this year i the coverage stakes?? This promise has been bandied about for about 8 /9 months now??

I heard in July last year, within 12 to 18 months Sentech will have coverage of 80% of the country ... yeah right!

Just to correct a couple of things. I got MyWireless in April directly from Sentech, modem cost R2600 (not R2999 as stated earlier), the time taken from faxing my application to having the modem delivered at my home and getting online was 3 days (according to the helpdesk, it usually takes about 5 working days). Unfortunately the modem went faulty and was handed to no-wire for repairs. There was no deposit paid to nowire (even though I'm not their customer) and Sentech does arrange a loan modem free of charge. The R600 deposit is only if your modem is out of warranty. The only downside is that you have to go to their offices to pick it up and that is a bit of a pain.

orin76 : Thanks for the update on the price of the modem. But, I got my contract through NoWire. I phoned them first thing in the morning. They came out a 2-3 hours later. Did a signal test, which was good. I signed up right there and then. My username and password was activated within an hour Total time taken between calling them and being online : 3-4 hours

Yep ditto! same sort of timespan with me signing up, and as said although I do have issues with NoWire, I have read on this forum that their help centre is better than sentech or iBurst.

Well about the Iburst reseller thing.. you cant judge them on your neighbours experience. She could have got any tiny reseller who knows nothing about the service, there are some great resellers who really set everything up perfectly and help customers. It just depends who you choose. I dont believe there is anything wrong with the IBURST setup at all.

lso Iburst help centre just got upgraded.. its 24/7 now and your cals get answered alot quicker. The poeple are quite helpfull for small problems, but they have the usual flaws.

I want to dowload a lot of things and i not very patient
and be able to play online.

Project X : Shaping refers to a technique used to dramatically slow down all protocols except for http (and pop) so that only web browsing and email is fast. P2P, which is normally used for downloading, get terrible speeds. This technique is mainly used on ADSL.

MyWireless does not use shaping at all. In fact, your speeds are generally better when using P2P.

I'm not sure about iBurst. Maybe someone else can fill you in there

Iburst does shape.. but you can get around it with a proxy and the 9 gig package doesnt shape.

For gaming.. is Iburst or Sentehc better? I can only vouch for Iburst, and, given a good connection you can game locally fine. Even with just a okay connection/signal warcraft works fne, i play everyday.

ADSL does not have p2p shaping of noticable effect. iBurst p2p shaping is quite hectic on the <9G packages, and Sentech does not shape p2p.

Either way, ProjectX -- if you want to play games online, you are going to be disappointed with BOTH iBurst and Sentech. FPS games are a no-no, so no CounterStrike, etc. RTS such as Warcraft, perhaps. But the Wireless services really suffer from bad latency.

If you're a serious gamer, ADSL is the only option. If you don't want to be frustrated, even with casual gaming, then ADSL is the only option.

Well warcraft is definatley perfect on Iburst, with a good enough signal. I hardly experience much lag, and a firemd of mine with Iburst and a much better siganl harldy ever lags and get pings under 100ms to battle .net
Hes even got in the 40ms which beats alot of ADSL connections pings, he is often onwe of the loweeast ping when playing a game.
BUt the problem is not just to do with pings, so a few jumps can be expected. And I have tried playing BF2, but with my connection it was unusable, i did kill one or two people though. But there are Ibursters who play BF2 online.
