Hi! What problem did they fix? Because my lag is still as bad as ever and if anything, it's gotten worse over the last week or two. I'm also on the G1 package.

How bad is bad? When I started playing I was getting between 500 & 800ms, then when I reached my cap it got a bit better and then it got substantially worse (14000ms :P ) I noticed a few people were having similar problems on the iB support blog thus why I posted this thread. A few days after the complaint though the connection speeds have really picked up again and it's playable.

Geez, I thought it would've been lower on an unshaped account.

Go to hellkom.co.za you can find ISP's that offer 3GB for about R100 shaped.
I am with saol.com I get 10gigs for R499 split that between 2 people and it becomes very affordable.

How bad is bad?

Well, I also used to get about 800 latency, which I was totally satisfied with, but ever since the festive season, the latency first started to fluctuate really dramatically (going from good (600-800) then to TERRIBLE (20000)). And now it's just staying bad, at about an average of 4000ms, which is basically unplayable. There are periods when my character starts and action, it gets stuck doing that action for more than a minute, and then when it starts running again...my character is dead. This basically excludes me from any group activities, which is the whole point of online gaming. If I can only do things alone, I might as well play an ordinary computer game that doesn't require the internet.

And as I've tried to explain to the iBurst helpdesk, the problem is not on my side. First of all: I get 100% signal. And in addition to that, the latency does improve between 12:00am and 6:00am (not great, but an improvement). If it were my computer, it would be bad all the time. And it's not Blizzard, because 12:00am to 6:00am is peak playing time on the US servers. If my poor latency was due to them, it would be worst during that period.

I can't believe that the iBurst could make the comment that SA has no online gaming community  (see the iBurst Blog http://www.iburst.co.za/default.aspx?link=blogs_support_blog&blogs=2). If they just knew the great effort and expense we all had to go to in order to get the expansion pack, those of us on the US servers at least (I can't speak for those on the EU servers), then that comment would have nothing to back it up. If online gaming is so popular everywhere else, then why would they think that online gaming wouldn't be popular here as well?

ADSL unshaped. I get around 300 to 500. Of course there is the occasional spike. But I cant complain. I will not consider any wireless for a while. Too unstable.

IBurst say that SA has no online gaming community ??? Doesnt suprise me. The majority of corporate IT in SA are clueless about the consumer market.

Anyone else having really good WoW pings on iBurst? I cant remember the last time I had a 700+ ping. And regularly it drops to below 500 :D :D
