ICANN approves new web suffixes

I seriously can't believe this went ahead. After debating a few top-level domain extensions for YEARS this gets pushed through that quickly. Well - they have opened the floodgates for spam and phishing because now anybody will be able to get a "secure" sounding name, because there is no way organizations can register all the variations that pop up.

"bigbank.secure", "bigbank.bank", "bigbank.portal", "bigbank.ssl"......

Not only that - we already have congestion on the .com level because of local businesses over the globe having the same address. Now it will only get more confusing.

The only thing to look forward to is that domain name prices will probably drop to zero. Hope blogspot or somebody registers ".blog" and give those addresses out for free.

Woweee, you could sell *.whatever and make zillions. I bet there are people buying these up as we type.
