ICASA LLU discussion document: Industry feedback

Interesting that WA is the only company saying LLU will reduce costs and increase competition. Wonder what they have up their sleeves?

Well Vox are pulling their usual it seems... basically it seems as if they're softening everyone up for the normal "oh but this doesn't decrease prices, it lets us increase them"

That may be but his opinion about the splitting of Telkom into retail and wholesale is correct. Some retail prices at Telkom are cheaper than wholesale!

Oh, without a doubt, the splitting of Telkoms retail and wholesale divisions would change the landscape....

But Vox lost my respect ages ago.. they seem (to me at least) to be out for super-profits, rather than reasonable profits.

Telkom split the two divisions in a process that started about two years ago as they have to comply with regulatory issues.

I think what other ppl are talking about in terms of splitting them... is splitting the two companies COMPLETELY..rather than just making them different Business Units within the same group

Hmmmm.... where else has that happened globally?

We're better than the rest of the globe :p

I personally am under no illusions, that even IF the two divisions split totally into two seperate companies it wouldn't actually change the landscape TOO much since the interaction between the two wouldn't change markedly.

Your examples are not valid to the question.

The Bells were totally split (geographically) and each one retained their own wholesale and retail divisions.

Close but not 100% what was discussed above. BT still owns OpenReach. OpenReach is an example of how SA can achieve full LLU and not how to split wholesale and retail divisions, as it that includes more than the LLU.

Why do the mybb editors feel the need to put the face of every ugly person referenced into their articles? Old nerds are ugly and off-putting. Please replace them with hot women at least. I guarantee your coveted page views will go up.

People need to start understanding that the ANC government does not want to masses to use the internet. This LLU will be a long delay taktice – / on again off again / new draft bill / debates / more debates / new draft bill again

The ANC needs the masses to be daft and uninformed,
