on another note:
Richard Levi must go away now. He has been given 4 chances in the world cup, 3 chances against england and failed every time.

As much as i love the Proteas, i just honestly do not see us even remotely beating India. Bowlers with Albie/Parnell, these guys lose us the game single handedly every time, so thats against us. Our batting has been terrible losing Levi and Amla in the first 3 overs.

I guess just gotta keep the faith.

I think that our team selection is not right. I still feel that we should select 7 batsmen and 4 bowlers. AB will keep. If an Albie or Parnell can't be selected as a batsman or bowler only, sorry it is time to go.
I saw some stats the other day that nr. 7 or 8 batsmen only averages 10 / 11 in T20 cricket. In T20, if your top 6 don't fire, you normally lose. (Unless your the legendary destroying batsman Umar Gul against SA :wtf It seems that these kind of innings always happen to SA.

Hehehe ... I only laugh at the comments here from our committed supporters! No offence guys - I have passion for cricket too, but this just aint cricket ... this format is a "see ball hit ball"-crowd-pleaser and it will not change. It is an unfair format where bowlers are only there to get the ball to the other end in order for it to be smacked for a six (or attempt thereof). Having said that, I found some bowlers doing extremely well i.e. Malinga last night - super performance on a pitch which has no benefit for bowlers. I never used to watch this format, but somehow my TV has been on this competition quite alot (during repeats of the rest of the Multichoice bouquet - which is almost all the time), and I did find some entertainment value in this competition.

Back to the games - Our batsmen owe us a proper innings - in the last 2 matches it really seemed that they batted "lazy". It looked like they only wanted to push the ball here and there instead of going out and play this format the way it was intended. A lot of people complained about our bowlers and I feel this was unwarranted looking at the intention of this format of the game and seeing that the pitches gave very little to the bowlers (apart from spin). Our bowlers did pretty well and we have to acknowledge that they will get stick. This format caters so much for batsmen, that need to step up. We have great batsmen and I am confident that the wheel will turn now. I expect a great perfoemance all round from SA and I doubt AUZ will dissapoint. I see us being a a force to be reckoned with from here onwards. ... I hope I am right

LOL - yup - really amusing to see everyone get twisted into knots.

This is 'tip and run' cricket - the equivalent of playing in the road when we were kids - in fact, if you want to take it to it's logical conclusion, they should change the rules to allow batsmen to come back in after everyone is out if their are still overs remaining.

Can't take this seriously - it's too much of a lottery on the day

I hope South Africa makes 2 changes today - Du Plessis for Levi and Albie Morkel for Parnell. I think Kallis and Amla should open , Amla should play the anchor roll , and let people play around him. He is our most consistent batsman this season let him play his natural game. He has been chasing after the ball way to early . He should only do that in final 10 overs should he be their. Best of luck SA can you rise from the dead?

Two crucial things need to happen today, Levi needs to be dropped, if he plays im supporting india.
Albie should play.

If India plays with their same team as they played Pak,they will have a long batting line up, if they chase, we lose.

I'd go with this team too. Regretfully Levi hadn't fired in this tournament and Faf is reasonably solid up front. Captaincy and marshalling in the field (especially the bowlers) will be crucial.

South Africa

South Africa are the only team that can be knocked out even before their match starts. For the second time in a row, they will be hoping Pakistan lose because if Pakistan win the first match on Tuesday, it will mean curtains for South Africa.

However, if Australia do beat Pakistan, South Africa have a fair chance of making it to the next round, thanks to poor NRRs of India and Pakistan. As mentioned above, if South Africa score 160 and win by more than three runs, their NRR will go above India's, enough to qualify provided Australia have won all their matches. The advantage for South Africa and India is that they play the last game of the group, and will thus have an exact knowledge of what they need to do to qualify.

Pakistan

Pakistan's defeat to India - and the margin of that loss - has put their semi-final hopes in danger. Their NRR has dropped to -0.426, which is only marginally better than those of India and South Africa. If Pakistan lose to Australia, an Indian win will knock them out without NRR playing any part. Even if South Africa beat India in this scenario, Pakistan's chances remain bleak: if they lose their match by five runs (chasing 161), and if South Africa score 160 and beat India by the same margin, then Pakistan's NRR will be poorer than South Africa's.

Pakistan's passage is not straightforward even if they beat Australia. Even after winning, they'll have to hope that India don't beat South Africa by a bigger margin and sneak past them. If, for example, both Pakistan and India score 160 and win their last matches by ten runs, then Pakistan's NRR will be marginally lower than India's.

India

Like Pakistan, India too need to win to have any realistic chance of qualification. If India concede 160 and lose by more than three runs, their NRR will slip below that of South Africa. If India and Pakistan both win their matches, the margins of those results will decide which team goes through.

Australia

With two huge wins in as many matches, Australia are the best-placed team in the tournament. For them to go out, both Pakistan and India will have to win their matches by around 40 runs (if they bat first and score 160).

Should Pakistan beat Australia, South Africa will bow out and they'll be playing for pride against India. That would leave India needing to beat South Africa by a margin large enough to overtake either Pakistan or Australia's net run-rate, depending on which of those teams is second in the table. Should Australia beat Pakistan, a win over South Africa will see India through. A win for South Africa, in the same situation, will bring it down to net run-rates between three teams - India, South Africa and Pakistan.

It would be an extremely short-sighted, abysmally poor decision to include Parnell for a crunch match.
