Great feedback from the Vincent Gore, ID

Hi folks

Very fast and positive feedback from the Vincent Gore from the Independent Democrats. He writes:

“I am extremely concerned about the current situation regarding ADSL, in particular and broadband internet services in South Africa in general. … Perhaps we can meet and have a discussion around this, and how the Independent Democrats can propose more meaningful change in South Africa.” and “I have just completed reading through the document regarding broadband Internet services in South Africa. It does make extremely good reading. … However, what the report clearly shows for me, is that South Africa is desperately lacking behind the rest of the world in providing cheap and quality Internet services to South African citizens. I do not believe it is a question of cost, and working in a Third World country. Something desperately needs to be done in this regard. I did a thumb suck the search projects have a few years ago in broadband pricing in South Africa compared to international countries and I found that in general prices were approximately 100 times more expensive in South Africa than international comparisons.”

The fast and efficient service from the ID is definitely a feather in their cap. We should certainly try to assist them in any way we can to ensure that they can effectively address this issue at parliamentary level.

Regards,

RPM

Act!

So when do we meet?

After all, actions speak louder than words...

I take it you haven't even sent the ANC a single thing? They couldn't give a stuff about the state of South african Telecoms. It is only good for business, The internet is not an essential tool for our country?

Does the ANC actually know what an ADSL Internet Connection is?

Does the ANC even know what a "Minister of Communications" is.......

She is the one protecting their income from Telkom yes, by delaying anything which may look vaguely like a possible form of distant competition.

The ID has always been interested in these issues, definitely a party with a vision.. not a lame duck party who is only interested in serving themselves.. let's not name them (it) here shall we..

Will be good to be in regular contact with Vincent, great guy and very clued up on everything and anything related to the telecoms industry.

The only problem being they have even less of a political voice than the DP and as we've seen, the DP gets absolutely nowhere fast when it comes to debating with the ANC.

Still, it's something to consider the next time elections come around and a small voice is better than no voice at all !

Have you ever heard of Patricia De Lille? Well say no more :)

While the ID does not have much actual political say, they are very vocal on issues. This is however a positive for raising awareness of the exuberant rates that we pay here in SA.

Whether or not the ID's correspondence with the MyADSL/MyBroadband forum will bear any fruit remains to be seen. It is all and well saying yes SA has horrific telecoms pricing, it is another thing to do something about it.
