I have a pc that has a small SATA hard drive with an operating system on. I want to change that to a IDE HDD.

In the BOIS, it shows the following:

SATA - undetected
Primary Master IDE - Found
Secondary Master IDE - undetected
Primary Slave IDE - undetected
Secondary Slave IDE - undetected

Booting options only show

Hard Drive
CD Rom

It is on Hard drive

The IDE HDD has an OS loaded on it, but when I try and boot it, the booting fails.

It's a Dell optiplex 170L series Motherboard.

set the raid controller to IDE mode in bios, if that doesnt work check the jumper n the hdd

booting fails what's the error message?

SATA Primary Drive 0 not found

Then I go into BIOS and disable SATA and enable Primary Master, it picks up the hard drive, even the size.

When restarting pc then, the error I get is:

Error loading operating system

set the raid controller to IDE mode in bios, if that doesnt work check the jumper n the hdd

I can't find that. There is no option for that, there is only one BIOS screen. The only SATA I see, is under Hard Drive Detection.

The jumper is set on Master, it boots up in my other pc. All IDE cables are set as in the other pc.

You have the IDE drive as master with the CD on slave?

The only motherboards I came across had a bootup limitation on the SATA side ( it was on a USB > SATA) never on IDE.

Check the 2 cables to your SATA drive and IDE also/
Hint with IDE if you get the master/slave conflict the HD light will stay on.

Took out the CD completely, yes drive is on master.

I took out the SATA drive as I want to use it as a secondary (the 1.5TB issue I have)

The only cables I have in is a IDE cable, in the Primary IDE slot on my motherboard. Bios picks it up a Primary Master, all the others is disabled by me.

I've not heard of Dell actually manufacturing motherboards themselves, anyway
check your CD's jumper is set to slave reconnect it and try recover the OS from CD.

Also have a good look for any damage on the IDE cable or just try another one.

I've found out it is an Intel MB. The IDE cable works fine in my IDE motherboard, it even picks it up in my Dell PC. It's doesn't boot however.
