Hi guys, i need some help here, been having trouble with my HDDs for some time now, pc randomly blue screens, finaly figured out the problem, the cable im using for my 2 hdds is been torn at the first connector, like 6 wires been torn.
Ive tried using one of the cables i have lying around but when i replace it, it gives me an error saying it cant load my operating system.
So i check the cables and noticed the one ive been using since ive had my pc is a 150v cable and all the others i have are 300v.
Does anyone know if they sell these cables, and why exactly they have different voltages?
Let me know if u need any specifics, im trying not to touch the cable too much, causing my pc to clonk out on me again. :P
and yes the tearing is my fault for the way ive been pulling the connector out, ive learnt my lesson.

Maybe the drives are in cable select mode and you swopping you secondary and primary drives ?

I dunno taking a stab in the dark but I don't think the voltages matter drives operate on 5V for the logic boards and 12V for the moving bits.

Voltage is not significant logic signals probably aren't even 5v.

Anyway just go to any computer shop and get a 80 wire Parallel ATA cable, they aren't too expensive.

Just a note the only difference between Parallel ATA is the 40 wire and 80 wire, the older cables are the 40 wire type, you can clearly see the difference between them. 40 wire type only supports up to ATA33 whereas the 80 wire type supports up to ATA133, IE they are rated for higher speeds.

Also what Gunny said, but if your drives aren't in cable select I would advice you to set them to cable select, makes your life much easier ;)

Check the BIOS to see if it's picking up the drives, and that it's booting from the one with the operating system on it...

Just make sure you get a 80 wire one. The 40 wire type gave me grief last time.

i got it fixed thanks :) just had my dad move the connectors down below the tear and now its working fine, rather have him do it incase it doesnt work so he would have to buy me a new one ;D
but yeah it is a 80 wire, and the one im using currently for my dvd rom is a 40 wire, i should get that one replaced, doubt it would make any difference, but its beter to have the same cables atleast.
And no its not on cable select, my main is on master and other is on slave.

thx for the help tho guys
