Hi Guys

We have a customer looking for IDE CD Rom's, anyone know who still supplies these?

Looking for around 300 units.

Thanks.

Hi kernel.

Consider using a cheap IDE to Sata converter (they are small circuit boards) that will convert the SATA rom to IDE.

These plug easily into the rom itself or the motherboard, but some do require a Stiffy drive power plug.

Also, buy one, and test it out on the effected PC's first.

Or, (more expesive) get some USB roms.

And your client may even consider only buying a few USB roms to service multiple PCs

Thanks for the reply, yes, I've considered the SATA to IDE option but would like to use this as a last resort as it will add an additional cost overhead.

It might actually not considering you've got to first find a supplier of IDE CD-Rom drives, which will probably cost quite a bit now as they are old. Whereas getting a SATA DVD rom drive is what R120 + the converter?

Yes, it seems that the IDE CD Roms are expensive which I didnt think would be the case so it looks like we're going to end up going the ROM plus convertor route.

Another option is create CD-ROM images and distribute over nework. Freeware software like PowerISO wil mount it on PC like physical CD-ROMs. Consider that CD-ROM devices are the most unreliable devices on PC (second after extinct floppy diskettes).
