Hi all

On site we have several old PC's still using IDE hard drives.

Is there a IDE to SATA converter that we can use to connect SATA hard drives to these old motherboards, without having to install new motherboards?

Keep in mind that the converter will also have to be 'transparent' to the operating system so that no device driver installation is needed.

TIA

Maybe something like a PCI SATA controller card?

some of the boards can take usb internally.....

Predominantly used to add flash drive for RAM purposes.

Something like this

Get one of these. Very useful for IDE or SATA (and getting data off when viruses take out the OS).

Why not run off USB ?

Ye, pretty much. I think it will be faster than an IDE converter as well.

Also you should be able to boot from USB as well.

USB is fsck slow!

USB2.0 is definitely NOT faster than a ATA port.

The OP has two options, buy a ATA to SATA converter or buy a ATA controller if you can still find such a thing. USB is NOT an option.
