Hi everyone

I need some help with an impending clear out that is going to happen at my work.

Ages ago, before my time, this place bought 19 Apple iMacs for use in the IT Lab. They have been replaced with PC's that can actually do real work, and many of them have been sitting in my office doing nothing since. They are those greenish all in ones that came out about 1997/98, with PowerPC processors and 64mb ram, 4gb hard drives. They have Mac OS 9.1 on them. I think there are 16 or 17 left in one, working piece.

I can't toss them out, I already asked the principal about doing that. He wants it given to some charity or somebody who can use it, but I have no real clue of who would want or could use these ancient machines. He didn't think they were old enough to get recycled either.

Does anybody have any suggestions of who to contact about it? Some charity or organization? We will get rid of them as is, keyboard and mouse included. Obviously no gurantee about whether they work or not.

We are based in Wynberg, Cape Town.

Thanks guys :)

Up until last year, we had one of those working at reception running Tiger. Worked fine for that application. Maybe upgrade to Panther or Tiger and most of them will work just fine for Office / Email and browsing the internet.

Load linux on them and put them back to work!
if they're to slow, do a linux cluster!! :D

else, give them to me to play with :D

Thanks for the replies. I spoke to a friend earlier who is willing to take them and give them to a new charity that is going to work in jails.

It's not worth upgrading them, as I can't support both platforms on this network, I'm man alone with 82 computers. Plus it just confuses everyone, hence why we standardised on PC's and Windows. Hopefully they can be of more use in the jails that this charity visits
