My IE keeps on losing it's proxy settings. Has anyone else experienced this before? How did you get this fixed?

NOTE: Don't tell me to install Chrome, that won't resolve my problem. ;)

who the fork still uses shhhhhhht IE????? :wtf:

the only thing IE is supposed to be used for is to downloading FireFox or Chrome :p

More info would be useful.

Is this a business environment, or home setup. Have you manually configured proxy settings, and they are resetting to blank, or is it configuring itself to a different server address.

Install Chrome, then I'll tell you.

/sigh. Your advice would then be of no use. Chrome also seems to want to use IE proxy settings ;) I was never able to give different proxy settings to IE and Chrome respectively on the same PC.

Business environment, proxy settings are configured manually.

Are you running a Windows domain. You may have a GPO in place that is forcing the Internet settings, without even realising it. Are you the IT tech. Because he may have set up a script to replace them. Because that should not just reset. Something somewhere is telling it to do so.

This is on a domain, but IE settings are not applied with GPO. I know this for a fact. I put in the settings, I close the browser, I open it, and the settings are gone.

Make sure that "Automatically Detect Settings" is off, since some GPO policies might be left lying on the server that affect the proxy settings. What you could do is ask your administrator to make you a script to apply the settings each time you open Explorer, that would solve your issue. Which version of IE are you using?

Using IE8, and Automatically Detect Settings is off. This is a strange problem. WOuld probably have to recreate the user profile :-(

Installing Chrome won't make any difference, because Chrome users the same proxy settings as IE.

Firefox shouldn't have the same issue though, because it uses its own proxy settings.

I think graviti is right. You probably have some kind of AntiVirus/Anti-Spyware application like Spybot S&D's tea-timer that overwrites your proxy settings every time.

I was just trying to improve some part of your life :(

EDIT: Oooooohhh, just figured out how to set Chrome's proxy settings in a way so that it doesn't share IE's settings :D

Quick, install Chrome and I'll show you how!!!!!!!!!

Already using Chrome at home.

remove all toolbars, and if you have any kodak software installed, remove it, make sure the client is not running any "funny" apps, remove anything that does not belong, if the client complians, ref them to the Computer use policy (if you have one).

You can also try uninstlling IE and reinstalling.

HOW?!!

please share this information!!!

not sure if the turning it off in the windows features just actually uninstalls it, or what?

What anti-virus are you running. Also, check all your apps for stuff that might be resetting the information. Sometimes some "free" (READ pre-installed rubbish) software forces the setting to what they think it should be. When you change the setting in IE, it is storing it in the registry. If the user has a mandatory profile on a Windows domain, then the registry settings would be lost when you log off and back on. Like wise, your USER Hive could be read only at the moment. Many AV's these days are setting it like that, so that Virus' can't use the registry as a mode of attack. Use Google to find the exact registry entry. Open the registry and check if it is there. Set it in IE and see if the registry now reflects the change. If it doesn't you can kinda guess that you have a writing to registry problem.

But we're guessing at best here. A LOT more detail on your setup would help us get there quicker.

if you turn of the IE feature, its uninstalled, you wont find any traces of it on the HD, you then restart the computer and re-enable the feature again, then it will reinstall.

Which version of Windows and IE are you running?
