IEC reveals when W Cape tally expected

Sampson said the lack of reported incidents of violence and intimidation in the province was a sign of South Africa's maturing democracy.

Dear Ms Sampson, please be advised that you are, in fact, referring to the Western Cape. We like to think of ourselves as a bit more civil than most of the other provinces :)

*ducks*

operative words highlighted for your pleasure :)

Yep, those Cape Town gangs are light years ahead of the other criminals in SA - true civil role models :)

Results expected between 23:00 - 23:30. Apparently still counting the Mitchells Plain vote.

Like someone said to me recently;

"Western Cape is the only province with common sense, the rest are stupid retards"

How the hell can so many people vote ANC?
What are they... stupid? paid to vote for them? WTF!!

Houses, Social Grants, Electricity, Water and apparently jobs.

Looks let's face it the ANC have done all the above for their people. The quantity and quality are debatable when it comes to housing, the amount of money for each individual social grant is very little, electricity and water for some people is new and whether the broader working class pay for this and all the above if also debatable. Jobs are scarce and I think this may get worse because of the commodity slump worldwide and the prospect of many miners and people relying on the mining industry losing jobs and contracts respectively, which all has a knock on effect on employment.

But all these things are unsustainable with only 5.5million TAX payers.

And please show me where they are creating jobs? Even in our economic boom period - even though our economy grew very fast, it was still jobless growth.

The ANC aren't giving their supporters what they really need. It almost feels like they are keeping them poor. And after hearing the Jesse Duarte interview with that Times reporter, I'm almost certain of it.

Apparently jobs Etienne.:)
This is exactly it. The ANC apparently or give the impression they are creating jobs. I like you are also perplexed with this perception?

Currently a lot of jobs are being lost due to the slow down in the economy. The only way this will pick up quickly is through massive public works projects which there a number at present as a result of 2010 with infrastructural upgrades and additions. It is just not enough for the size of our population.

The ANC know how to give. Social grants etc.
This is easy, but it leaves as you so rightly put a heavy burden on the taxpayer. At present I think it is 3 people for every 1 taxpayer which are getting some form of social welfare. 5M vs 15M or thereabouts.
This is a heavy burden on the taxpayer who is under pressure from retrenchment and losing his job and struggling to pay the bills every month. The ANC have created a bad balance.
People living off social grants don't learn how to fend for themselves but instead learn how to milk the system. No wonder the ANC get all the votes at around election time.
Please don' get me wrong. I am not against Social Grants for people that really need them. I am just against us becoming a complete Welfare State.

Wait for the big job slide this year and in 2010. The 'world' economy is contracting for the first time since WW2.

As for what the ANC have or have not done, credit where it is due. Simply by making water and electricity available to people who did not have it before you are improving their living standards and they have done this pretty well.
What the people will never get is that a lot more could have been done had the corruption levels been significantly reduced, a lot more, but then the larger ANC supporter base will find that difficult to understand. Tenders being approved, for way over the top pricing, moneys paid no delivery, etc.
They have a tap and power and some have a roof over their heads. Many more have social grants.
Jobs though, eish eish eish.

Reminds me of a tale from the Great Trek. Seems that there was a big sign in the middle of the Free State that said: 'If you understand English, turn right. As jy Afrikaans verstaan, draai links'.

The English speaking folk went to Natal, the Afrikaners, to the Transvaal. Those that couldn't read stayed in the Free State.
