For many years now Google has been the dominating market leader is search engines, with virtually no threatening competition from rivals such as MSN, Bing and Yahoo. From within its cozy secured position, Google may have heard the news of a new threat that may soon come to life for the search provider.
Earlier Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder, spoke at a tech conference in San Francisco outlining some aspects related to the company’s setbacks in terms of its stock, as well as future plans for the company.
The most important aspect mentioned by Zuckerberg, was the admission that Facebook had a laid-back attitude in terms of the site searches conducted by its users. According to Zuckerberg, Facebook’s 950+ million users conduct an average of 1 billion searches per day on the popular network. Zuckerberg confirmed that it would start to heat up rivalry against Google, by ensuring that the company will work on expanding on its search facilities and probably launch a new robust search engine.
According to ComScore, Google averaged a number of around 4,717,000,000 searches per day in 2011.
If Facebook do enter the search engine domain, bringing along 955 million active users, who all conduct 1 billion searches per day, this may pose a damning threat to Google. These numbers will increase tremendously should Facebook design and launch a simple, yet effective search engine not only targeting Facebook, but the Internet in general.
In short, Facebook may be heading the right way now and surely has the capabilities of dethroning Google as the world’s leading search provider, if this project is done correctly.
