Had anybody bought from these guys yet?

Saw a link in the Incredible Connection thread here and the prices seem almost too good to be true.

I've placed an order with them and received notification that they have stock and are able to send my order after I make the payment.

Never heard of these guys before so I'm a little wary of depositing a couple of grand into their bank account

I've only seen their too good to be true prices. They beat most places by about 10%. Someone phoned them and their prices are VAT inclusive but further.... welcome to the dark continent ;D

Yep, can't trust anybody these days. :(

I see they have a Oneshop.co.za award (if that makes a difference) and are listed on the Oneshop site as of 18 March '08, yet the "award" is for '07??

Another thing that worries me is that they haven't added any shipping charges to my order.

Check if you have selected that option.

The award makes no difference to me. I've seen sites that say they are using secure socket layer (SSL) but they had no certificates to speak of.

Their stuff is really cheap hey! I've been looking for the cheapest price for the Logitech Z-2300 speakers - It's R1200 at this place. These speakers usually go for around R1700...I'm tempted to buy.. Who's going first? Come on..some of you guys have deep pockets, losing a few bucks won't cause that much damage! :D

Their Logitech Z2300 speaker's price was very tempting before I saw the price for Altec Lansing's FX4021. And even some of the sound cards. Maybe they are trying to attract customer with low prices during launch.

Altec Lansing FX4021 could be better and cheaper. ;)

At the moment I'm tempted to use another email address, order something cheap from them first and see if i actually get it.

Weird...

Here's the reply from them:

"Our prices do not include shipping, I will let you know once order has been collected what the shipping charge will be, cause I will have to weigh the products. It should be between R150 – R250."

...so they wait for your payment and then you have to make a second payment once the shipping has been calculated. Very fishy :(

Ya, that does not sound too cool. Also, that is a lot for shipping. Prophecy ship all orders above R1000 for free, door to door...

It does sound strange. I've never heard of a shop doing this. All those I've been at have a table where you can see beforehand what the costs will be depending on the options and so forth.

And R150 - R250 for shipping? How much stuff are you buying? Unless it's a lot the R250 will probably negate their cheapness...

To be fair that is quoted on a cpu, mobo, ram, psu and chassis (all seperate, not pre-built) so I imagine that isn't unreasonable for a large order. I still don't trust the way in which the transaction takes place though.

Anyway, if no-one can vouch for these guys I'm just going to break the order into smaller (cheaper) chunks and see if I get the first one.

The worst are the self-signed certificates, and then they proclaim from the rooftops that they are SSL secured, lol

If its speakers, its understandable they are charging R150 ... this is what I charge (Unlike prophecy, I do not have as many orders and my shipping charges are higher, and trying to offer free shipping would sometimes put me at a loss).

The reason he has to weigh it is he is new and like me when I started, needs to know the weight of a product so that he can give you a price ... what I do is I underestimate the weight ... and if I have to pay in so be it ... lucky for me, my shipping charges work in sets of 1-2kg, 2-5kg, 5-20kg with their respective delivery times.

This is probably why he said that ... but the reason I never told a customer I need to weight it initially is because I didn't want to lose the sale because the customer had to pay twice ... luckily now, I have credit on the items on my site, so I can weigh it if it is something extremely uncertain (Such as a large laser printer) ... otherwise I know the usual weights and pricing, and just give the customer pricing based on that.

I also keep a list of stuff I previously weighed and measured for future reference, and estimate weights for similar items according to the list.

By the way ... I'm not saying this guy is or isn't reliable ... I dunno him from the spider in my neighbours garden ... but thats probably the reason he said that.

Regards

Itai

Wasn't too keen on taking the risk so I've placed the same order through NGRComputers (for about R400 more) and was hit with a shipping charge of around R190 (for insured, next day delivery).
