I don't smoke so I had no idea about illegal cigarettes until I saw the signs and heard the adds on the radio.
To me the media campaing sound like nothing more than emotional blackmail.
Illegal cigarettes lead to someone being shot in a hijacking. Seriously? Do people actually buy that crap? Is there no other valid reason not to buy illegal cigarettes?
Or am I misunderstanding something?

To me illegal means untaxed. So buying "illegal" cigarettes is the same as buying any other grey market goods that where slipped thu customs.

I posted something about this weeks ago and felt the same way. the only reason it is illegal is because no business/person has been able to inflate the prices on those smokes. The government want us to pay tax on their inflated priced articles thereby robbing us anyway.

Don't do crime as the government does not like the competition.

They tried the same crap with anti-piracy campaign. Such a load of garbage, if the criminal was successful at selling illegal cigs he wouldn't need to hi-jack :p

Madman, if you pay close attention to the radio ads, you'll notice that it is sponsored by BAT... British American Tobacco.

There are two good reasons for not buying the illegal cigarettes - tax and quality control. You really can't say what exactly they put in illegal cigarettes.

The tax on cigarettes is very important - it is (to be) used to subsidize the health industry.

Illegal Ciggarettes are the same thing, gov just don't get their cut...

If I remember correctly they don't have to show/tell you what they put in them but I think the UN is trying to change this.(Something like that lol).
