why hasn't anybody been able to "hack" the PS3 yet ? i'm not trying to promote piracy i just wanna know what makes this console so hack proof.

Its possible, I think the expense of blu ray discs and reproduction equipment makes it unappealing to the bigger syndicates though.

Anyone know why the games for the PS3 are so big?
Because DVD9 forces developers to use the format to its maximum, while with blu ray they can just dump whatever they like on it, thats why they have installs and slow loading times

Has anybody noticed that the games are much shorter compared to PSX and PS2.

Resident Evil 5 for example.

Uncompressed textures, who knows? The games could be smaller than that but I think the OS is expecting to find the information on a blu ray disc.

Games are piratable, but you need hardware to make the special "markings" on the Bluray disc (ROM markings). Bluray players have hardware to read these markings, but not write them. Only authorised entities (manufacturers) have easy access to such equipment. In addition, the PS3 uses all sorts of weird hacks to make the software work, like forcing buffer overflows to write certain parts of memory, etc. It's just weird.

And this could all be circumvented, I'm sure, but most people aren't really interested in doing that because of the price of BD media.

Ah, but I don't think it's mandatory to implement the ROM marking. So it's possible that certain games CAN be pirated in this way.

but you dont need to torrent the 5 gig game to get the saves, which is what we are talking about

Again it depends what game you are talking about? Anyway the only one moaning about it is YOU No one else. What for no one realy knows. You prolly stuck in your own dreamworld there. Shame!

Had my PS3 hooked up on a Full HD Sony LCD this weekend and I completely understand what the fuss is all about now! I understand why the games are on blu-ray and I understand why it takes so long to install / load :D

p.s. If Santa is reading this, please may I have a Full HD Sony LCD for, uhm, as soon as possible! :D
