I can't believe it!!! We had the antenna guy come out today and he found a signal in front of my bedroom window with his fancy antenna :P
He will prob come here tomorrow to put the antenna up, buuuuuuut I thought, let me try and bring the modem in here and it lit up like a christmas tree! So here I am...still connected to the wrong base station according to the experts, but I am online.

Life is beautiful :)
 
Congratulations are in order. I think quite a lot of us have been following the saga of 'the poor Jhbgirl who can't get online'. Enjoy!

with a 128k upstream it's not worth hosting a warez server, however, she can hook up a webcam if she wants, and give us "special shows"

(By the way, funny you mention a webcam - I've been idly thinking about getting one - given that I have a great view of 'Sewende Laan' in Melville - which could provide a lot of ongoing fun for netizens interested in watching the drunks, fighting car guards and beggars throughout the day.. Might do it, given that it just needs some prestik on my balcony and the cam itself stuck on it, pointing down :)

Don’t be too concerned with ZoneAlarm’s blockings. Most of the blocked traffic will be UDP packets that the firewall sees as possibly harmful. This is not to say it is not necessary but simply that all the blocked traffic is not harmful.

Switch to sygate, better than anything i've seen, plus, it will stop me from hacking into your pc to watch you through your cdrom (yes I can do that... no seriously... i can... trust me.... ag fuggit!)
 
Lol noone you are quite the PronStar i can only imagine what your 512k of bandwidth will be doing, you must be the the most leeched off person at any lan :P
