Good day,

I've escalated this to Midrand and will advise ASAP

Thanks MTNDD

All the Sony Ericsson 3G handsets have not been approved. This is the P990, K800, K610 and the M600. These handsets are all not compatilble with our 3G sim.

In order to get the full story, I'm speaking to Dave Rapson or Richard Lawrenson. They will be giving me technical reasons.

Will advise ASAP

Thanks MTNDD

Here is the feedback I've recieved back thus far.

We are currently finalising the K800 and K610 provisional approval with SE which will include a retrofit/software upgrade in November. We are also looking at doing the same with the M600 but the P990 has not been upgraded yet and we will not approve it at the moment. There is a SIM Card handset incompatibility issue on writing to SIM wrt Contacts .

No SE P 990i 0n MTN until 2007

Now I find that amazing ~ what you are saying is that there is no 3 G smart phone available to MTN subscribers before the end of the year. So much for our technology being on a par with the first world !!!! So I find myself stuck, I would like to buy my own phone and just pay reasonable rates for calls which I can only do on VM but then VM is not 3 G and I would like to go the 3 G route. So the questionis when will VC or MTN offer the option of reasonable call charges without tying us in to a 2 year contract. If the networks cant give us up to date technology when we need it then we need to have alternatives that work for us...

Personally I store all my data in my phone and dont use the SIM card for data so would rather have the phone now and upgrade later.

Echoing Afristar's sentiments, I would also rather have the phone now and a 3G sim card when MTN get their act together. I for one will be straight to Vodacom on number portability day if the K800i is not out by then.

How is it that MTN is the only network that I know of that has problems with this phone - All networks in the UK are fine, Vodacom is fine...

MTN_Data_Dude I would just like to thank you for all the work you are doing here, if we were phoning 808 or speaking to the MTN outlets we would still be in the dark - Much appreciated. (Even more so when I get a K800i in my hands)
