Yep, I don't think the boss will fall for that price. looks like i'll hsve to wait for the K-JAM.

Any one know if the K-Jam is released yet? According to LEAF it is and should be available from MTN this week?

Yeah .. where?

Firstly a big thanks to DEVA from MtnSp(jhb service centre not capetown)who was most helpful....he helped me sign up a new,1st time contract with MtnSp,did the credit vetting fast and gave me the phone without any hassle......
5 stars to him for efficient service!

a quick review on the phone:
tried most of the applications:Super
MSNMessenger:works 100%
internet explorer:80%
Skype:didn't try it yet....controversy:check VOIP thread
video playback:95%
audiostreaming:90%

will continue tmrw....this was all typed on the jasjar!

Why only 80% for IE?

How is the screen? Characters a bit small?

Screen is excellent.characters are big enough.5 different zoom levels.
the phone is fast but IE seems not fast enough....can't handle my internet banking too well....figured a way though...

ill download opera browser or something like that and let u know ...

one drawback:keyboard..buttons are a too close so u make mistakes..getting use to it.

conclusion for now:this is the best available at the moment!

Now it is even harder for me to wait for mine.

Phoned MTNSP again yesterday. 808 hahahaha, After 20minutes I received a answer for the question I asked them 3 months ago.

3 months ago they said I'm able to upgrade 17 Januarie 2006, now all of a sudden it changed to 19 February 2006.

Those people at 808 never knows what they are talking about. I think I phoned once or twice in the past 11 years and spoke to someone who really knows what they are talking about.

I wish someone like Deva can work at the Cape Town MTN service Centre because the people in Cape Town MTN Service Centre.... eishhh

move to JHB!

more updates...(to make your mouth water):

I ran :
File explorer
internet explorer (sorted out browsing-can do banking 100%)
Inbox-send and receive
Msn messenger with 1 chat screen open
and lastly Windows media player with a 16Kbps audiostream for 27 min with no need for buffering (at GPRS speeds - amazing that no need to buffer!)

all of the above simultaneously!
=multitasking and here are specs:
Total program memory= 47.93mb
and whilst running all of the above=
in use= 35.30mb
Free memory: 12.63mb
which in my humble opinion is :Excellent...some may say its less memory but what more can you do at the same time?

Tried to stream video over GPRS (waiting for MTN to deliver 3g to Krugersdorp!)
here are results:
44kbps stream for a min:had to buffer once
41kbps stream for 1min 17sec :didn't need any buffering at all-which is good for GPRS
Picture was small though but of good quality.

One problem:cannot find a Data meter on the device,so I don't know how many megs I'm running up!which is dangerous to my bill!
ill call Leaf and find out--it must be somewhere but I'm missing it...

FAX:no fax function..KJAM has it like 9300 etc.Leaf say they are testing Fax software and it will be availble..but we have to buy it.

Mouth watering or more like flooding???
patience,u guys will get yours...I hope.just hold on.

Can you read the screen in direct sunlight?

Is Word/Excel included? I had Pocket PC 2002 which included Pocket Word/Excel but I see no mention of it in the specs.

Yes, it has Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Adobe acrobat reader.
Also incl Pocket MSN, etrust anti virus, Midlet manager ( for Java programs ), voice dialling software ( havent tried it yet)
let me go outside quickly and see about the sunlight.......

Indoors:
When backlight is off: you can hardly see anything -
When backlight is on: its obvious - like your laptop= 100%

Outdoors:
Backlight on or off: in both cases: You can see clearly > obviously not 100% but satisfactory and i dont see a problem with it

Forgot that it has a camera! 2 actually, one a 1.3megapixel for photos and videos and the other a Video Cam next to the screen for Video calls.

Camera quality is good.Better than my Sony Ericsson V800 although both ahve 1.3mega pixels and both have flash lights.
Flashlight is better than V800.

Camera outside in sunlight :
Cant see the pic too well although other functions can be seen clearly..
funny?? ill try playing with resolution etc another time....

Like all phones the camera cannot replace your digital camera..........

Another neat feature: The keyboard has a light sensor so if you put it on light sensor, the keyboard wont light up during the day.
Normally it lights up every time you touch it> cool reddish backlight..

My dad just got his application approved for one of these! Thanks to fast service from Deva again!:) If it didnt get approved, my dad was definitely going to take mine! and then i would be the one with a watering mouth!
Only, no stock so he has to wait for it...

Guys, MTNs service is excellent if you go the service centre > over the phone, i also have my complaints...but personal service > cant get better than the service centre AND i can vouch for that!
Yello MTN

I dealt with a guy at the jhb service centre called "Eldon", who was also pretty helpful. Ordered my jasjar, but have to wait 3 weeks (the 12 they ordered disappeared in a few hours...courtesy of Mams and and his family):(

To Mams
Is it really worth the weight/size you have to carry around?
Can you carry it in your jeans pocket, say?
Can you run internet java application on it?
Have you tried the video calling on MSN messenger? (or is that also a problem wrt MTN's VOIP rules?)
Have you tried the normal 3G video calling yet?(or is it problem in Krugersdorp)
Does the office apps like word, powerpoint have full functionality ito editing, etc?

Tell tell

cheers
