iMate JasJar MTN Offering??

Amplifying on Kompete's last question:-
Does Excel support macro's?
(If you don't have any spreadsheets with macros just say if there is a Tools-> Macro menu item)

I dealt with a guy at the jhb service centre called "Eldon", who was also pretty helpful. Ordered my jasjar, but have to wait 3 weeks (the 12 they ordered disappeared in a few hours...courtesy of Mams and and his family):(

To Mams
Is it really worth the weight/size you have to carry around?
Can you carry it in your jeans pocket, say?
Can you run internet java application on it?
Have you tried the video calling on MSN messenger? (or is that also a problem wrt MTN's VOIP rules?)
Have you tried the normal 3G video calling yet?(or is it problem in Krugersdorp)
Does the office apps like word, powerpoint have full functionality ito editing, etc?

Tell tell

cheers

suppose some people are luckier than others! And not like I took 12! only 1 and waiting for the other 1

Regarding your questions:
1: I think its 100% worth the weight/size - easier to carry than 9300
2: Depends on ur pocket size!
3:Yes,that's what the midlet manager does-runs java programs-one that I tried worked but Mxit doesn't seem to work--ill try to sort it out
4:Messenger for mobile doesn't have voice chat nor video chat-what a pity!
5:Kdp doesn't have 3g from MTN...tried Vodacom::crystal clear--used skpe out and made 3 calls!they didn't even know I was using SKYPE-
6:basic editing

Tried Skype with a MTN prepaid card. was charged R2 per mb.
Quality: No 3g in Krugersdorp nor any EDGE so had to use GPRS - call quality was ZERO..could not hear a thing...

As i said, on 3g it was 100%...now i just have to wait for MTNs 3g.

Another point: the JASJAR supports only GPRS and 3g - no EDGE.
However on GPRS, the browsing, on the device is not bad at all. Downloads of emails with large attachements is slow. I downloaded an email with 2mb attachements...took quite a while..and i can confirm:
Macros not supported

K-JAM or JASJAR?

Mams, have u had a look at the K-JAM as well? How does it compare with JASJAR, i.t.o. functionality and size? Is it really worth it to pay a bit extra for the JASJAR? I just need Word, Excel, MTN Messenger, email and Skype.

Only saw the KJam on the Internet:
Specs:
JasJar: 127 x 81 x 25 and 285 grams
Screen: 640 x 480

Kjam : 108x 58 x 23.7 and 160 grams
screen: 2.8" (240 x 320 resolution) trans reflective TFT-LCD screen with LED back light.

I think you have to see them both

also keep in mind...KJam has EDGE and JASJAR has 3g - both have Wifi ( only helps in hotspots )

Got my Jasjar today. Unfortunately it is still wrapped and sealed in my car (while i'm at work), which means I will only be able to use it tomorrow (after charging it for 16hrs).

Oh..the agony of having to wait...

The Morningside service centre guy (Eldon) managed to get this phone for me in a few days, instead of the normal 3 weeks back order period. Well done Eldon!

Morningside ( thats the JHB SERVICE CENTRE - just incase the CAPE boys dont know..;) ) has the best service! My dad received his JasJar as well! Looks like stock is available Thank you to DEVA and to MTN

KOMPETE - hey, now i want your reviews on what u think of the JASJAR.....

NOTE: at MTN u only pay R1 extra for the KJAM..........so grab it..

Does anyone know what the number is for the MorningSide Service Centre, or an e-mail address that I can contact to order a K-Jam, been trying to get a hold of anyone but no reply yet, I wanted to get a contract Yesterday already.

Thx to anyone that can reply, I'd really appreciate a reply from MTNSP. Tried sending a PM but to no avail yet.

PS. I've done 90% of my posts wit my I-mate Pocket PC. So what? Not trying to be rude, but I can do it with my Nokia 6630 and 9300 as well. Nothing major.

yes but can you activate your home's automatic water sprinkler and alarm system remotely with your device?

plus I'm sure given the weight of the jasjar, if I hit you against the head with the device I can inflict some serious damage...:p

hahaha, nice one. I'm only getting my water sprinkling activating at home brick hitting over the head inflicting damage machine at the end of January.
Can't wait.

Cool! - where did you get it?

Contact MTN Service Provider = 083-1-808 (i think). I got mine at Morningside in Jo'burg....

I went to the Sandton City one on Saturday, and they have 10 of the K-Jam and 5 of the Jasjar, so phone then and place your orders ASAP, I've already booked my K-Jam. There number is 784 6092.

So far I'm not majorly impressed with the Jasjar.

The following are some of my gripes (which hopefully can be resolved):
  • Cannot sign into pocket MSN (error: "temporary conditions prevents you from connecting to pocket MSN service")
  • Cannot play chess on gameknot.com (error: Java virtual machine is not enabled or not installed)
  • Cannot add contacts to Skype (this is strange...?)
  • Cannot use jasjar modem to dial out with my laptop
  • Cannot synch with my Outlook 2000 (Need to upgrade to 2002, but am concerned that the upgrade will mess up my contacts or jeopardise my work connection?)

And my biggest gripe: The device gets frustratingly unresponsive at times. (I already had to perform 1 soft reset).
There must be some law (similar to Moore's law) that states: "the more sophisticated technology becomes, the more unstable it gets"

Mams, maybe you can help me with some of these.

Thanks
