Anyone else been to the new IMAX at Gateway?

I was so damn excited to watch Thor last night, and came away sorely disappointed. They have moved it from the massive dedicated area it used to be to a normal cinema along with the others. The screen is tiny, the 3D was blurry everywhere except the center, and the damn illuminated floors had bright blue LED's pointing upwards (at your eyes) instead of downwards.

Will definitely not go back to that considering a normal non-IMAX 3D movie is better.
Oh, and it's R100 per ticket o.0

EDIT: I've posted about this on my blog: http://blog.roguecode.co.za/why-you-shouldnt-go-to-imax-gateway/

That sucks,
and that was suppose to be the new "state of the art" IMAX,
Was it in Cinema 18?

that sux. I was hoping for a fairly large screen similar in size to what was there previously before imax shut down.

How can you play IMAX movies on a regular sized theater screen? There is nothing 'MAX about that.:wtf:

Thought whole point of IMAX was the massive screen...

We went there yesterday as well. What a waste of money. As said by Roguemat, the screen is small in comparison to the previous IMAX. I Also thought it was at the old place, but was directed to the normal complex.

The screen is slightly bigger than a normal cinema screen, that's it. Sound was good, seats were comfy. We drove all the way from Waterfall. The wife is still moaning about the money spent.

If you want to watch something in 3D, just go to the Pav or something.

Have they upgraded at Nu Metro? I was last there about a year ago and it was pants, the movies were out of focus and grainy, the floor was super sticky and the place smelt damp.

Have not been to the PAV in ages. I know it's been revamped at the moment.

Yeah the distance is quite a schlepp but if I'm going to bother going for the cinema experience, I don't mind the extra km to Gateway and I get vitality discount

Ster Kinekor in Musgrave is ok as well.

Can't wait for the new shopping centre in Waterfall to be completed. Will have our own proper cinema's.

Yeah, I live in the Musgrave area so frequent their cinema. It's not as good as the Gateway one, but it's cheap and better than Pavilion.

The Pavs are being upgraded completely atm from what I know...

Yes, the whole bottom section up to the tobacco shop is boarded off. There's a temporary cinema counter and cinema opposite.

Quite excited to see it when it's finished. Those cinemas were in dire need of a upgrade.
