Is is a good idea to use one trusted agent or multiple?

South Africa’s biggest forum. Discuss, discover, and connect with thousands of members.
which route did she follow? I'm trying to get mine sorted nowMy sister recently got her UK ancestry visa.
Thanks to her!, the hard yards have been done, will very much consider this option moving forward.
Not keen, but based on current trends, future not looking overly rosy.
I have no idea. Maybe others could comment. LinkedIn seems to be a good option. My wife was offered a position with the same company she worked at in Cape Town at their London office. She has had a few Skype interviews from LinkedIn applications before she left.Regarding job seeking in the UK.

Yes, LinkedIn is huge here. I tend to avoid recruitment agents - they're a dime a dozen, and all seem to be equally useless. Set up profiles on sites like Monster, cvlibrary, Hayes, Reed, etc. Once your CV is uploaded, it doesn't take long to get hits (unemployment in the UK is below 5%, remember).I have no idea. I didn't use any tips sites - the app itself was quite intuitive when I was initially setting up my profile.I have totally neglected my LinkedIn, any decent LinkedIn tips website to spruce it up?
What timeline should I look at for landing a job in the UK (from sorting LinkedIn to setting up profile)? I am in SA at the moment. I have the necessary passport so can travel visa free at any time.

What industry are you in?
because, if his sister's situation is similar to mine, then I have further questionsYeah, but how is it helpful to know how someone else got their passport? It's your situation that matters to your application. My dad was born in the UK, emigrated at 20 and was naturalised in SA. in the 80s I got my citizenship through him.
Do you have a British passport or any right to work here?
Unless you have a very specialist skillset and are on the required list then i doubt any company will sponsor you for a tier 2 visa.
I have a british passport.
Then start applying online. Be aware though, most employers won't give you a second look if they find out that you aren't in the country. Best is to get on a plane, get here and start sorting out the relevant paperwork and accounts.

Thanks for the info.
Ok so, update LinkedIn and CV. Upload to main jobs sites. Get on plane.
Whats the timeline on airplane landing to job?
Best to worse case scenarios?
What paperwork and accounts?
You say you work in "IT". That's a very ambiguous term. In SA, a company could have one or two "IT guys" who handle an estate, and do almost everything. Here, it's very niche. A company will have a network guy, Wintel guy, backups guy, virtualisation/cloud guy, security guy, etc - and they ONLY do that. Thanks for the info.
