Immigrating to the UK

You can back date the 3 years if you can prove you were living out of the country.

It called tax emigration right? I was lucky as I financially emigrated and submitted my application in February 2021 just before the laws changed
My non tax cert is dated the day I left. I meant I'm pulling my RA in March

Thanks for the advice.

Does anyone have any experience with "no success / no fee" type companies claiming that they can get your pension out of SA tax free? (I cant seem to recall if its pension or some sort of provident / preservation fund). I was told there is a "loophole" where you can essentially do a section 14 transfer into a UK fund?

I don't know anything about that but I do know you get tax relief at your marginal rate for contributions into a UK fund.
So I'm gonna pay the tax (30% or whatever) on my RA withdrawal and put it into my UK pension fund and get a 40% or so top up on it.

Well that or spend it on artificial lawn, sick of the mud in the back garden and the dogs bringing it in

Maybe this has been answered, but can I de-register as a tax resident if I still have debt in SA (still paying it off - that exchange rate is making it so cheap to do so)?

I think you can, yes. I had credit card debt when I applied.

Yes, Indeed you can. I still have more StdBank account with overdraft and credit card even though I am fully tax emigrated now.

In fact, I got my new cards in January 2022 when I visited SA after my tax emigration completed. I don't think StdBank are even aware to be honest.

Kak cold, but sunny again today. Also nice to see that it’s getting darker later in the afternoons.
We are currently gaining 2 ½ minutes of daylight per day

I'm finding the winter harder to manage than the summer (cape town - we learnt the joys of blackout curtains).

I've actually got some LED strips to light the house to "more normal colours", so I keep it bluish until about 4/5pm then turn it more orange - it helps a bit to keep reference of more or less when I am in the afternoon.
