Immigrating to the UK

What in the world are you ordering? Thats like a package every other day!
Just, stuff
Like, headache pills, cleaning stuff for round the house, shoes, dumbbells, weights, just random **** when I need it.

My local MP came a-canvassing on Saturday morning. Cuntservative party. Asked if he could count on my support in the upcoming elections. I just laughed. He picked up the accent and tried to form a connection by telling me he grew up in PE and East London. So I said ah, in that case, you'll understand my concerns when I say that the Tory party seems to be doing their best to emulate the ANC in terms of corruption, patronage and incompetence. He was a little ... shocked... How out of touch with reality are these ****ers?

Yeah, really weird how the Tories somehow managed to move further left than Labour in such a short space of time.

At least Starmer has been able to say what a woman is.

Not a fan of parties on the left due to their economic policies, but the Tories have ****ed things up properly. So who is there left to vote for? Reform?
UK politics is in a bad spot at the moment.

Reform is even worse. Complete racist nutfucks.

I don't think the tories have gone left at ALL. (and I don't believe the ANC is a leftist party either). If anything, they've moved into UKIP territory.

No? Just look at their current policies and how they’re handling immigration, etc.

Rwanda? Housing asylum seekers on barges? Privatisation of NHS, water companies, rail companies? Tax breaks for wealthy and business?
All very much rightward imho.

Their policies are right. Their implementation is so fkn useless though, that the net result looks like liberal/socialism :D

The few people I've listened to about it seem to be fed up with both right/left parties.

I just nope out of politic discussion usually though :P

I thought your MP was Cruella?

So we've found a house that's literally perfect for us.

Agency / Landlord don't care we not in the UK. They've offered us 50% discount on the first months rent + pay 5 months up front + deposit - then house is ours. Will be in the wife name as she has right to rent.

They want us to take it from next month - which is sooner than I'd like. I would have preferred to have the visa in place first, too.

We have the money - but it's a risk I think. Not sure if we should commit that much to it.

As for the visa; since new rules are now in place - we need to have cash savings to make up the deficit between what my wife earns now and the new threshold of £29k. Which we do have. (Or will have as soon as the house money comes through) fortunately we don't need to have the house money in the account for 6 months first.

Concerns are if the house money is delayed - it delays the visa. But.. at the same time at least the whole family can go over - animals and child / wife. And I can stay with someone here if I need to wait longer for the visa.

Not sure if we will commit to the house - wife loves it and wants us to take the deal.

I vote take the house.

Its one less thing to worry about and you tick a major item off the list.

Yeah it is a major headache off our shoulders if we go for it. I’m inclined to just do it. I know I will get a visa - as we qualify for it. But with a house in place it just means we can start getting things setup there so long and have a place as we land. The idea is for us all to go over at the same time and animals a few days later.

I put in an offer on a house and it's been accepted. It's so much less slick of a process than buying a property in SA is, my word. Not to mention when converting from £ to R, the numbers are terrifying...
Anyway, just another step to feeling more settled here.

Keep us up to date with the exchange process.

Nice one, how long have you been here? Someone told me they might require a bigger deposit for people on visas but not sure if that's true or just sort of linked to your credit history. Really aiming to also buy in 2 years or so...rent is fkn killing my soul

I've been living in the UK for about 30 months now. I don't have permanent residence so I was concerned around getting financing but there were enough companies offering products that I could get quite a fair interest rate.
When I looked into purchasing a property at the beginning of last year, the deposit requirements were 20% for people like me, with less than 3 years of financial history in the country. Now though, they only wanted 10%. Apparently I hit some salary threshold which puts me in a lower risk category.

Currently being inundated with document requests. It's going to be an expensive time with stamp duty, solicitor fees, survey fees, etc.
