My local MP came a-canvassing on Saturday morning. Cuntservative party. Asked if he could count on my support in the upcoming elections. I just laughed. He picked up the accent and tried to form a connection by telling me he grew up in PE and East London. So I said ah, in that case, you'll understand my concerns when I say that the Tory party seems to be doing their best to emulate the ANC in terms of corruption, patronage and incompetence. He was a little ... shocked... How out of touch with reality are these ****ers?
At least Starmer has been able to say what a woman is.Yeah, really weird how the Tories somehow managed to move further left than Labour in such a short space of time.
Reform is even worse. Complete racist nutfucks. At least Starmer has been able to say what a woman is.
Not a fan of parties on the left due to their economic policies, but the Tories have ****ed things up properly. So who is there left to vote for? Reform?
UK politics is in a bad spot at the moment.
I don't think the tories have gone left at ALL. (and I don't believe the ANC is a leftist party either). If anything, they've moved into UKIP territory.Yeah, really weird how the Tories somehow managed to move further left than Labour in such a short space of time.

Rwanda? Housing asylum seekers on barges? Privatisation of NHS, water companies, rail companies? Tax breaks for wealthy and business? No? Just look at their current policies and how they’re handling immigration, etc.

No, that's my son's MP. I've told him I have expectations if she comes knocking.I thought your MP was Cruella?
I vote take the house. So we've found a house that's literally perfect for us.
Agency / Landlord don't care we not in the UK. They've offered us 50% discount on the first months rent + pay 5 months up front + deposit - then house is ours. Will be in the wife name as she has right to rent.
They want us to take it from next month - which is sooner than I'd like. I would have preferred to have the visa in place first, too.
We have the money - but it's a risk I think. Not sure if we should commit that much to it.
As for the visa; since new rules are now in place - we need to have cash savings to make up the deficit between what my wife earns now and the new threshold of £29k. Which we do have. (Or will have as soon as the house money comes through) fortunately we don't need to have the house money in the account for 6 months first.
Concerns are if the house money is delayed - it delays the visa. But.. at the same time at least the whole family can go over - animals and child / wife. And I can stay with someone here if I need to wait longer for the visa.
Not sure if we will commit to the house - wife loves it and wants us to take the deal.
I vote take the house.
Its one less thing to worry about and you tick a major item off the list.
Keep us up to date with the exchange process.I put in an offer on a house and it's been accepted. It's so much less slick of a process than buying a property in SA is, my word. Not to mention when converting from £ to R, the numbers are terrifying...
Anyway, just another step to feeling more settled here.

I've been living in the UK for about 30 months now. I don't have permanent residence so I was concerned around getting financing but there were enough companies offering products that I could get quite a fair interest rate.Nice one, how long have you been here? Someone told me they might require a bigger deposit for people on visas but not sure if that's true or just sort of linked to your credit history. Really aiming to also buy in 2 years or so...rent is fkn killing my soul
