It's not only longer to wait, but would carry that NHS sub charge fee. So if you earn less you will effectively pay more while waiting longer.

It's really harsh, specifically on anyone here who didn't plan/save for this

"
A recognised British connection will include:
• eligible partners, parents and children of British citizens; and
• Commonwealth citizens who qualify through the UK Ancestry route on the basis of
having a UK-born grandparent."

Ok, ancestral visas are considered British connects

Yeah you’d need to pay for two more visas. So 4 in total. Eish.

Overall, yes.

Though 50k is probably a little high for the 5 year option, it could have been 36k-40k and been a bit fairer to those working outside London/the South East.
From what I've been seeing online, it's not retrospective, so you would've had to have been on 50k+ for the entire 5 years.

I think the u-turn for carers is a mistake, because the 15-year rule massively cut down the number of "carers" coming over here. Now the floodgates (and dodgy "care home agents" who take advantage of people) are going to open again.

It’s still ten years for them though isn’t it? And the Home Office is not issuing care visas at the moment. I think the U turn is for those already here. Around 220k would have been affected.
