Immigrating to the UK

Must be difficult to ride without pedals.
Super easy

How would one go about opening a UK bank account while still in SA?

I might be able to get British citizenship sooner than anticipated.

The law changed recently, and it affects me positively.

Basically, my father's mother was British, but he couldn't become a British citizen by descent because previously citizenship did not pass down via the maternal line. This meant that when I was born, in the 80s, he couldn't register me as British.

Had he been born British as he should have been, maybe I would be British today. Anyway, that's the argument that Breytenbach's wants to put forward. Of course they can't guarantee success so its a bit risky.

My wife’s father is British, born in Rhodesia - his father was born in Leicester, and registered his birth as British. Her oldest brother was registered as British at birth in South Africa, so has citizenship and a passport. Her birth, for some unknown reason, wasn’t registered as British, or they did it too late - regardless, she’s a naturalised South African, and all she was entitled to was an ancestry visa because of her British grandfather. I came over as her dependant, and after 5 years on the ancestry visa and then holding ILR for a year, we’ll soon be applying for citizenship.

Not sure if Breytenbach’s argument has any legs, and you may eventually only be entitled to an ancestry visa via your grandmother (if she was born in the UK).

There is apparently load shedding a threat of load shedding there too

Not quite, the National Grid ran a number of scenarios for best, medium, worst case stress tests of the grid.

In the worst case scenario they envisage the possibility of some form of load shedding at the coldest period in Dec or Jan.

We thank you for your generous donation to the public purse.

;)

2 x £1330. No refund on the money we paid for the visas, the ILR or the £1000 I paid into the NHS before I got here though. :(

Though, I did make good use of the latter during my time here. ;)
