Immigrating to the UK

Brown recluse spiders.

Dealbreaker. Don't want to be shot and don't want to be mauled to death by a pinky sized docile creature who'll accidentally bite you to death.
Long since available in the uk.

They’re actually regional within the USA too. Apparently the Brown Recluse and Black Widow are the only “medically significant” spiders in the US and only affect some regions.

We actually get tons of spiders where I am (none of the above two though), and I’ve used Picture Insect to classify them. Fun stuff.

Flight was smooth. Even with a 13 month old who slept all the way.

Just for Lyca sims. 100gb / unlimited calls and texts for £30. Can’t argue with that.

I actually can. This network is utter ****. Never have any signal in a lot of places we go to, or stay.

Will just get O2 when we come back next year. Putting these SIM cards in the bin on our way out.

Been happy with lebara roaming on vodafone. £25 month to month, unlimited data/calls/texts

In their defence, Lyca has just moved network and doesn't have full network access yet. EE is a very good network but have a few policies that negate usage on MVNOs in fringe areas, the main one is that it withholds access to certain bands (like B20 LTE) if the phone can't access VoLTE, Lyca doesn't have access to VoLTE (yet) so you aren't seeing the full network ability.

you going?
To the US? permanently? Hope so. The kid wants to go to university in the UK so we could possibly end up there. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We had no problems with Lyca outside of our visit to the country but we’ve always had issues there regardless of the network.

You pay for what you get. If you go on these cheap deals coverage can be very kak.

I get excellent signal at home and London via SMARTY, but it's horrible once I jump in a train, where my work phone via O2 was great allover.

Yeah O2 is a little more expensive. But I’ll just use them in future as their coverage is very good.

O2 is cheap, probably the cheapest of the main networks.

I currently run dual sim in my iPhone, my main line for calls is on o2 and I pay £5 a month for unlimited calls/texts and 10GB of data on an eSim and £8 a month for 50GB on Smarty.

I could have had 30GB for £8 on o2 but they are the slowest of the networks and 3UK (Smarty) are the speed demon when you have decent signal.

Sounds a lot better than Australia at least. I was just looking today to see what to get and their data is really expensive.

Have used Smarty since I moved last year, never had a signal problem and we go on quite a few walks in rural places. My friends with GiffGaff (o2) are always moaning lol

Broadband have used three 5g for a year and now EE , thought EE would be better but three actually had better speeds. Unfortunately no fiber in both our old and current places (city center living :( )

For those still thinking of moving over and who will need a visa and NHS surcharge there will be a biggish increase coming soon.

Ugh.. I may have to see if we can do it before increases. As it seems it might be significant.

The Times was reporting on rumours that the IHS fee could be doubled in the future, then today all these vague statements about visas and IHS charges going to be increased are made.

You would hopefully be ok for any application made in this FY (or at least I would hope so).

We're due in Feb so we should sneak in before the increase hopefully.

We’re only realistically going to be able to apply I think maybe Q3 - 2024.
