Immigrating to the UK

I sent off my drivers license to DVLA last week. So now I am just waiting the 3-4 weeks for my UK drivers license to arrive.
The way things just work here is awesome, but you get no feedback while the stuff is being processed so you just have to wait until it arrives.

IIRC it took like a week for mine to arrive.

We planned and saved for over a year, getting all our documents in a line and making sure we had enough funds.

For ancestral visa, after we applied it took 2 weeks to get our visas/passports back.
For us, we got across in 4 months of getting the visas (selling most things and putting what we want to keep in storage)

I think ancestral is easier for them to process - so quicker turn around time.

We aren’t selling anything in the house 0 just giving it away to friends and whoever else, as I can’t be bothered with the fuss.

Just the cars we need to sell.

As for funds, we have that already to move.

How much of a mind**** is it driving around with no license and no worries about that?
oh yes, I took photos of my drivers license should I ever get stopped by the police. But that is another thing I have noticed... police are everywhere, but I have had zero interaction with them. You don't get into road blocks, or get pulled over for checks. 9 months here and I haven't shown my drivers license to anyone.

And I love the fact that I don't have to carry my drivers with me which means I go wallet-less a lot. I can just walk around with my phone. Have you noticed how, in general, you get asked for ID a lot less here in the UK?

Road blocks are not a thing in the UK. You'll only be pulled over if an officer suspects there might be a reason for you to be pulled over. Either car shows up as not insured or no MOT on their in-car ANPR system - or you look / behave dodgy around them.

They're able to do all their checks on you and your vehicle from their car - no need to stop you.

In Africa - we do road blocks on the highway - like last week on the N1.

I don’t think roadblocks are a thing here. ANPR does all the work for them so no need. Your reg is all they need.

Yes though, no real need to carry identification if your stuff is in order.

I got asked for ID when collecting a package at the post office and my bank card was good enough for them. Loved it!

Until the last round of elections, you didn't even need ID on you to vote.

Wait what? I dont need to carry my drivers around?
How do they check or know then?

First thing you need to do is register on the electoral role when you get here. It helps with the credit score.

Added that to my ever growing list of things to do over the next 6 months.

Thanks,

Did you just pay the fee at the post office with a postal order? Also, where/how do you get a photo for it?
