Immigrating to the UK

Being on the voter's roll goes a very long way towards establishing your identity, as it links a name to an address.
If you don't have that link, it's very likely that a lot of your credit info will not be connected up, resulting in what they call a thin file when they do a search on you - and so you'll get a low score because there's nothing positive showing up.

Thats a fair point, but if I use trans union as a reference it seems like the real value of being on the voters roll comes in after a few months of being on it and not moving around. Let me see if I can find that again.

I'm pretty sure that is what's happening with me, I can't even sign up to Experian for some reason

I managed to get onto experian without being on the voters roll, I'm on it now but in my report from them it would say I was not registered to vote for like a month after I'd registered to vote.

I had a UK bank account before then though, so that might be a contributing factor as that account linked to my address.

This is all I get:

Sorry, we couldn’t confirm your identity

Lol, somehow the app prevents screenshots, but LLoyds app (transunion) says under Electoral Register: 'Being at your current address for 18 months will improve your credit score'.

Otherwise the increase according to TransUnion was quite small.

But go register on the voters roll for sure, I don't think it's something you should have missing.

It takes about 6-8 weeks from when you register on the voter's roll to when the credit agencies note it.
It _IS_ possible to establish identity etc without doing it, but it's really a no-brainer to do it anyway.

In terms of it being an actual positive in itself - you need to be on the roll for like 6 years plus.

This is the first time I've had a dud with a delivery here, IKEA stuff was supposed to be here on Saturday and now I just keep getting SMSs that its been delayed. Meh

I've got a steering wheel on my desk, bought from Amazon

Amazon tracking says it's out for delivery since 3 october, running late... and I can request a refund. There's no option in the app to say "hey it actually arrived".
So the completionist within me is fighting the ethicist within me, and £250 would be well received in this season of festivities...

I got a partial delivery from IKEA, they delivered everything except the pieces I needed to put everything together.
Ended up having stuff lying around for 6 weeks before I got the final parts.

Considering space is a factor, it was not a pleasant experience

Could’ve been worse. Could’ve been (not) delivered by Evri.

If you know, you know.

Something similar happened to me. Some drawers were missing for a chest of drawers I bought.

Was a very easy process (and free) to get the parts a few days later via https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/customer-service/spare-parts/

Went to apply for an extension to my wife visitor visa today.

No go. VFS won’t take the application because:

1. Needs a return ticket to home country.
2. Can’t have two applications at DHA.

So we drove to the airport to go ask immigration there.

They tell us they can only follow the directive given by the government. Which states if you apply before or on March 31. You can enter and exit as you please until December.

Doesn’t apply to us. And if we were to leave in March she would get banned.

Her visitor visa expires on New Year’s Day.

They did say they expect another directive though. As this isn’t the first one.

Fun times.

Damn BT got me hooked on that fast internet speed during the first month...

Hello, BT here. Your Full Fibre speed boost trial period is coming to an end. To stay on the higher broadband speed you're currently getting, upgrade at bt.com/fullfibreupgrade - otherwise, you'll automatically go back to the package you ordered with no hassle and no charge.

If you know, you know.

Indeed, when I just arrived I needed documents for my house sale sent to SA. The documents cost me almost £450. Used Evri (not knowing better), they tracked it to their hub, then it just disappeared. Their insurance doesnt cover documents, had to redo them and they delayed me by a month "looking" for the package.

Never again

Though it is a sliding scale so you only lose the missing year and still get the pension. So divide £203.85 by 35 and then multiply by your number of qualifying years.

https://www.gov.uk/new-state-pension/how-its-calculated

You can buy back an extra 6 years iirc.
Pensions going up...
The increase means, from next April, those on the full new State Pension will get an extra £17.35 a week, taking their weekly amount up to £221.20. Overall, it’s an increase of about £900 a year.

I think the pair of you need to quieten down and go sit on the naughty step with such poor attitudes!

Eish, good luck with that one.

Evri seem to be partnering with some big Chinese players (AliExpress and Temu) and doing the UK part of the deliveries.

I’ll let you know how this one goes tomorrow (though the last one was a day early). I suspect they don’t want to piss off such big businesses early in their new partnership.

I see minimum wage went up to £11.44
