Hello everyone,

I have never ordered anything from overseas, so I really don't want to get blind-sided with a fat fee

I want to order a Monitor from Amazon, have it shipped to MyUs address (https://myus.com), then have that shipped to me. Reason for this is because other monitors charging around $120 for shipping, but this one is $232
The monitor itself is $196

MyUs is quoting me for R1000 +-

What sort of fees could there be? How do I prevent customs from keeping it?

Thanks!

Monitors aren't generally a good item to import unless you get a really good price, shipping prices are normally too high due to the size/weight of the item.

Which one are you looking at?

Monitors won't have duty. So the only tax you'll pay is VAT. They charge the 14% VAT on 110% the value of the item I think.

DHL Express is quite affordable with MyUS (Usually to within $5 of other options) and all the customs etc is handled quickly by their agents. So transit time is usually 2-3 days till it's at your door.

If you go via the budget option (post office) then yeah, customs will keep it for between 1 and all the weeks.

A lot of electronics from Amazon do ship via Aramex to SA though, and their rates are usually quite good. They also almost always undercharge duties and tax but still get through customs without a hitch. MyUS charges by weight and monitors are quite heavy. You'll probably pay more than you think.

It was a ViewSonic gaming monitor

I've found an alternative in SA though
Thanks for the supplies
