Hi All

I am not the type of person to take KUK from any Telkom representative because when they in my house they in my domain. I just beat the **** out of a Telkom ADSL Installer who is going to the cops to lay a charge against me. Its fine thats what I love about this country.. You can just buy the case number.

Anyways heres the story

I ordered ADSL Self-Install. Got the modem. Got the DIY Kit. Connected everything. Got the sync with the DSLAM exchange.
From a DIY perspective this is what you need on your side so that you are free from incurring a cost by Telkom (i.e. being Installation charge R404).

1) Sync with Exchange. ( this is the number 1 thing you need) As long as you have this Telkom is at fault if things dont work. (make sure your modem works!!!!)

In my case I had everything working perfectly fine. I just could not connect to any ISP. After fighting really hard with Telkom they have realized that the fault is on their side (being a faulty ADSL Port on the exchange). The guy wanted to charge me R404 for coming out when the problem is theirs.

If any of you are in the same bout or round about. Heres some contact details to make sure that you dont get ripped off by these idiots.

Pietro (HEAD OF TELKOM ADSL SELFT INSTALLTION)
012 680 6112
NOTE: If any technician tries to charge you for something, just give her a call and find out if it is justifiable. When installing ADSL if Telkom are at fault DEMAND NOT TO PAY. Give her a call. She's a gem and dont give her any flak. She is a genuine telkom representative. WOW I never thought the day would come when something like this happened.

Anyways she told me that the Problem lies with these Technicians. They pocketing the R404 without Telkom even knowing. They sabotaging the Telkom exchanges. If they Telkom Techy demands you pay the R404 just give this lady a call.

OH YES PLEASE REMEMBER.... Tell the techy that you will pay him whatever he wants after he fixes the problem. When everything is working 100% then give her a call and the techy to go stand on his head and whistle threw is a hole.

Hopefully this info will help some of you out there.
Dont take Telkoms nonsense.

BTW This techy i beat up said his bringing his friends over for some pay back. *evil grin* I cant wait to try out my new 12 gauge shot gun on a bunch of telkom technicians. I'll record and upload for your amusement.

PS: For those of you who believe that my tactics are un-lawful then you really need to catch a wake up. Unfortunately the only thing ppl tend to listen to nowadays is the iron fist. Its wrong but it works

i thought if they charge you, then you pay it with your next telkom monthly bill. no such thing as a COD type payment, afterall they'r just a techie, not a cashier.

Erk, maybe the techie got what he deserved, but remember that he works for a company with very deep pockets. I really hope that Telkom's lawyers don't get involved. Knowing Telkom though, they would probably charge the Techie for using their lawyers and still put a markup on the legal fees :)

And then cap their lawyer's advice

Yup you rite about the non COD bit. "Apparently" when its a DIY there is a COD involved... (like yeah rite!!).

I werent gonna have any of their nonsense. And If i see a R404 on my bill at the end of the month then low and behold... May god have mercy on the soul who billed me coz i wont!!

As to the juicy details about weapon of choice... (Police baton PR24). Sleek, Nifty, Packs an excellent punch... Floors your opponent on first contact (if used correctly).

I dont take well to criminals of any sort. Irrespective of police consequences.

I'm trying to picture this in my head: He starts getting abusive, you say hold on buddy, you ran to closet and grab the baton, run back and moer him. Sounds like self defense to me!

lol... more like run to boot of car...

Anyways my stuff is finally working... and I am loving it!!!

I also had a techie offering to do a "private" COD job on our Telkom PABX a while back, needless to say i declined the offer, it is just not worth the drama.

LOL. Brilliant perception ('cause it's exactly what they would probably do)!! :D

Big ups to you moosag. We need more people like you in S.A. Good to see some justice for a change. That techie got what he deserved - he wanted to take advantage and got caught out. :D

As expected... Spent my morning at the Bramley Police Station. 7am to 10am in a holding cell. Charges of assualt.

Bail was R200 and the police case docket was R50.
In total it was all R250. Cheaper then a Telkom ADSL Installation and a 30GB account :)

They are such complete idiots. Our police force is a joke. You got to love them and hate them at the same time.

Anyways all in all it cost me R250 to install my ADSL Line. And that money went to the SA Police Force. I would rather pay SARS before i pay Telkom!!!

Good luck to you all.

I disagree with this... I'd rather pay the techie, and give him a bonus. God knows they need it. They are underpaid, and overworked. Whilst I cannot condone corruption, as you so rightly pointed out moosag, you paid R50 for the docket, so you in fact aided corruption. You would have paid the techie, not Telkom, there's a big difference. I don't see how you can claim "I would rather pay SARS before i pay Telkom".

You were prepared to bribe a police man, but not a Telkom technician? That sounds a bit hypocritical to me...

moosag...im glad u enjoyed it!

not sure if da rest of us would have da courage u have!!!

come on give us a detailed story on wat occurred..i wanna know everything - wat da tech did, said, looked like etc...

im waitin in atticipation for a response...

we want more, we want more....

u owe it to the people

MOOSAG for PRESIDENT

TheRodent... You know the saying "Good guys always finish Last". Perfect example. What you say is completely true. I personally could not agree with you more on that subject. I hate corruption and crime. And yes I am hypocrytical and I contradict myself in the same sentence.

But you know what. When you are getting screwed over they way telkom are screwing us. If you want to sit back and take it up ass then by all means. I will always stand up for my right. And I will use the systems at hand to get my way. Even if it means I must contribute to corruption. I will no longer allow myself to become subject to South Africa's nonchallant attitude to customer service and ripp off's.

I knew my actions had consequences. I faced the music and paid my time. Now this telkom techie whose got a lovely blue and purple eye and 9" doompy on his head. When his other techie friends see him, they'll think twice before they start any nonsense. And yes you are rite. He is overworked and underpaid. But you know what... That aint my problem. I pay my taxes. If the big cats above are screwing him... I couldnt give a damn coz i too am getting screwed. Its sad state of affairs. Its called casualties of war. And this sort of abuse on the guy will most deffinately reach the big cats above.

And you know what.... God forbid I ever bump into the likes of Sizwe, Lulu, Smith, or any of the idiots in the higher level of management. As God is my witness I will chase them down and beat the living sh*t of out them. And you know what.... I'll get a way with it... Because the same corruption tactics they use to keep government in their pockets... I'll use the same tactics to get off scott free while they sitting in ICU. I am at the point where I am not really in the mood to listen to what politicians have to say. Time for talk is over for me. All that ICASA and Government are doing is slowly playing down telkoms monoply allowing them to squeeze every little ounce of money they can before the reall competition starts.

The only difference a couple of years ago was that ppl could not do anything. We never had choice. Now its all different. We actually have the right to stand up for ourselves and do something about it.

You were prepared to bribe a police man, but not a Telkom technician? That sounds a bit hypocritical to me...

You know what.... I would never have to do such thing if we lived in a perfect world... Where everything is "suppose" to work the way its written in the law books. But you know what... We dont live in a Perfect world. So till that day comes i'll live by a simple rule. You dont step on my feet I wont step on yours.

At the end of the day it comes down to "Different strokes for different folks". You have your opinions and beliefs and I respect that. I have mine. And I dont judge anyone.

For the record.. I am not proud of what I did. But at the same time I will fight for my right.

As for the juicy details... He fixed everything. I told him I am not paying because its a Telkom fault and that they are full of ****. Then he told me that If i dont pay I am going to be in trouble. I asked him if he was threatening me. I also added to that, "you can stand on your head and whistle through your a** hole, you aint getting anything out of me.. BTW he wanted me to sign something." After that he told me that I am a f**king thief. I just saw red... you picture the rest.

The policeman wanted less, in fact R354 less, than the Telkom techie did.:)

All I'm saying is that the method probably didn't warrant the result. One bribe got exchanged for another. In the end, the problem is Telkom and their fscked corporate policies and system. Not the little people.

The money could have been better used in advertising on MyADSL e.g. "MoosaG for prez" or supporting lobbying against Telkom. Think google ads to the tune of "Telkom sucks", or any of a million other less violent actions.

Moosa, I can understand that you saw red. If the guy was that antagonistic, he probably got what's coming to him.

Harsh words, and I can't say I entirely disagree. But the fact is that if nobody sticks to the rules, there will never be any need to enforce the rules. Thus, it is actually better to try and stick to the rules, even if things aren't "fair" or "perfect" all the time. The only way to achieve perfection, is to start creating it - at least _somewhere_. If Sizwe beat up the IT guy that came to repair his harddrive, we'd all be up in arms about it no?

If we all just lived in the Wild West, and shot or beat up anyone who stepped on our feet, we'd be back in the dark ages. Civilization begets civilization.

Anyway, an interesting story. I'm surprised it's worked out so mildly. Thanks for the headsup on the scaly techie tactics. Just remember, there are a lot of good techies working there too. Don't go beating up anyone with a Telkom T-shirt. He could be someone you know's brother, or uncle.

True true... I'll promise to go easy on them....
And yes you right about what you are saying with regards to following rules and perfection. I am a bit of a rebel and I cant argue with you on that.

I just hope things change for the better and hopefully it gets done sooner rather then later.

Rodent kudos for standing up and saying you don't agree with this kind of thing. I think that it is despicable that a Telkom employee tries to force a customer to top up his salary but I cannot condone "beating someone up" for this. This sounds like the "good old days" (NOTE tongue in cheek) to me! And bribing the police to get your docket - hey man - when you are a victim of a burglary and your loved one killed and someone bribes a cop for the evidence envelope, just remember that what goes around comes around. We cannot complain that South Africa is sliding into anarchy and then jump on the bandwagon when it suits us! Nice one NOT. Frustration with Telkom I totally understand but illegal activities are not on.
