Hello

I am currently doing my BSc Hon Computer Science and my project involves setting up a gateway for fitness trackers. I am looking at using a Raspberry Pi but need BLE 4.2 (Bluetooth 5 would be great but I'm not keen on gettting to indepth with the Nordic nRF52 series from the gateway side)

anyway my question is does anyone know what the chances are of me getting a Raspberry Pi 3B+ through customs if I buy one off Amazon and get family friends in the States to send it over?

It's unlikely that there will be any issues.

That said, the 3B+ is (subject to ICASA's whims) scheduled for release in ZA this month.

Why not buy local, there are a couple of re-sellers here. One example..

No B+ offered

Just get one from the PiFactory
B+ out of stock

The New Raspberry Pi 3B+ Board will not yet be available in South Africa until ICASA approval has been received. The Raspberry Pi Foundation will be submitting the application and approval is expected around May/June. Once in place RS Components SA will make the approved board available to the South African Market.

OP if you want a B+ you will have to wait a bit longer. Getting it though customs is a risky business.

Unfortunately I need to start working on the Gateway part of the project ASAP. I'm going to give the Redbear stuff a try. and order the Pi and see what happens.

I've seen that the release date was May / June. Just a little worried that there is a delay and I can't get going.
