Has anyone had any luck importing mechanical keyboards? I mean ones made for typing, not gaming. I don't need anti-ghost anti-lag anti-anything, or rainbow LEDs. I'm also looking for switches that aren't common with the mainstream boards. Most of the boards offer Cherry MX Blue / Brown, and some go with Red / Black. I don't see anything available with Cherry MX Green / Clear switches, or other switch types (capacitive).

So I'm looking to import a keyboard. Does anyone know a site that ships internationally? Has anyone had luck with parcel forwarding services?

Just use amazon. I see amazon.co.uk ships some to SA.

How do the import duties work out? Is this included in the Amazon price? At some stage they had a setup where you pay "extra" to cover possible duties, and then they refund you if the duties are not charged. Is this correct? Shipping costs from Amazon have always seemed crazy high to me.

Just go as far ordering the device. In your cart it will work everything out for you.

I hear that there are no extra charges, and yes that Amazon sometimes refund people their money back should they have money due to them.

I looked into this as well. Das is about as good as you can get, but it's going to be rather expensive, and if something does go wrong with it, you have to ship it back for the warranty.

As far as ghosting and so on are concerned, you might as well buy a "gaming" mechanical keyboard fro takealot, you aren't really going to find much difference between a Das and the rest.

Most reviewers say that mech keyboards are made for typing first, because cherry gives you one of the best typing experiences.

That being said, after extensively looking into this, I'm waiting for the Razer Blackwidow 2016. It offers good typing, good switches -it's not cherry, but cherry like - and isn't as extravagant as most gaming keyboards tend to be.

Edit: I looked into it for typing exclusively, not gaming.

Razer is a rubbish brand. They have the highest RMA rate of peripherals when I was working in the industry.

Just gaming marketing for kids and cheap rubbish. I would personally stay away from Razer.

That's odd, they have high ratings on amazon etc.

Which keyboard would you suggest, one that is available locally?

There is this website that does group buys and ships to Sa and always had the absolute best mechanical keyboards, switches key tops etc. It is driven by enthusiasts, so they'd all vote on the best keyboard and then approach the manufacturer to get bulk pricing.

Can't remember the name now, they are quite well known, also very big on headphones.

Massdrop. They don't always ship to South Africa for all deals any more.

Have a look at Func keyboards from Loot. Very highly rated overseas.
