impossible problem

Flash your BIOS before you do anything. ASUS is notorious for having BIOS issues with IRQLs for anything released after the mobo. If you don't know how to flash your BIOS, take it to a certified techie... don't try it by yourself.

Though, it is real easy to do yourself, since that board has got Eazy Bios 2.

Download the latest bios file.
Put it on a flash drive.
Restart the computer and go into the BIOS.
Go to Tools and open Easy flash.
Choose the file from the flash drive and wait till update is done.

btw, the command in ubuntu is lspci. ;)

Are you using onboard display or do you have a display card? If it is the latter, could you remove the display card and plug the tv card in there and see what happens?
Also, have you tried to do a BIOS update? It's a pretty old board you got and I am assuming it is old stock, meaning old BIOS.

I was also going to mention a bios update on the M2N68-AM SE2 Board.

I own this board as a multimedia pc is the onboard gfx and your graphics card enabled simultaneously?

I had to manually switch mine off.

the motherboard asud cd has a live update you could use as well for your bios update.

however you can use Sharkbaits method rather if you have a dodgy internet connection.

Just a thought ...

Two techs say the card tests OK in their rigs but two mobos in your chassis fail to see the card - is it possible that it's not seating fully? Try removing the mounting bracket to test (should be doable as it ships with a alternative low-profile bracket).

We all know that PC shop techies aren't the smartest around and work for commission. ;)

I've also got an Asus mobo & remember that the manual states that you cant fill up all the slots, as it is shared. They will lists the acceptable combos in the manual.

Also, NEVER select the Plug&Play OS = yes in the BIOS. Even Microsoft says you should never do that.

This is new... Y not?

I think the card is pretty old too, but I haven't tried bios update, the pc is in the shop now as we speak so I can't do it. Its weird, the guy said he tested it before, but when I phoned now, he said he is going to test it now... if it works for I him, I will ask to update bios, if that doesn't work, I guess I have to demand a refund or new one. The card does fit properly into the board l. And oops, I musta confueesed the comands spelling, the font always confuses me lol. Thanks fir the offer cerebus, but there's not enough time. I'm also not sure if the onboard graphics is still enabled, could that do anything?

There was no mention of the Device Manager in the OP, maybe you should read it again?

Don't be a tool.

There was no mention of it, no. Hence my question: if his 'unknown device' statement referred to an unknown device in device manager. If it's at least showing there as unknown, then that's a lot easier to resolve that if it's not even being detected. No need to call me a tool.

SharkBait, not you.

Anyway, it's derailing.

I'd be interested in the solution when it appears, I really can't think what it could be with a new motherboard and two different operating systems..

sorry, but i cant post the output now, i gave the card to chaos computers to test again, but only the usual results appeard, gpu, processor, sound, ram, nothing mentioning videomate, tv tuner or anything vaguely simillar.. after trying extremely hard, at shop 2, a kind of theory was made that the card seems to only work on intel systems, both my amd motherboards failed to even recognise it at any level but the intel rig there did it immediately. Chaos said they didnt even have an amd rig to test it on there, so naturally they must have used an intel one. is it possible that it could only work on intel chipsets and not on selected amd one? the box certainly doesnt mention this. it should meet pci express 1x standards and the motherboard does too. the bios was flashed and still no results.

just an update, the theory of it seeming to work only on intel systems seems correct. I say seems because the workers of chaos computers refuse to tell me the truth. They didnt have an amd test rig to test it at by the shop, but an employee there said he would test it on his one at home. The next day mydad gets a call that the card is faulty... coincidence???? i think not. anyways, can anyone tell me what happened to the 7 day return and replace policy of pc shops??? they actually mention the 7 day period on the slip, yet refuse to return it.

Thats B.S dude.
If they have an ounce of integrity they will give you a new one.
My advice is to go their with friends and threaten to take this to the papers, the radio and hellopeter not to mention the regional manager if this is Chao's we are talking about.

They wasted a hell of a lot of your time and quite frankly they owe you an apology on top of the exchange.

Good luck and be stern, frozen.ice;).

kingrob: thanks for that post on the PnP BIOS setting. I've been setting it to enabled on all my PC's ever since Windows 95 :)

frozen.ice: Sorry for the silly question, but have you installed the card using the patch connectors for the case's power switch?

I've now read through the manual and they don't mention AMD in there.
You can always ask the manufacturer about compatibility with AMD systems: http://www.comprousa.com/New/tw/supports.html

So, did they replace the card with one that works, or give you your money back?
