Improved performance of Huawei 272 modem

For those of you with Huawei E272 modems I found that speeds (both up- and download) improves significantly if the modem is places vertical rather than flat. I was in an area covered by only one tower over the weekend and found that I could 'fine-tune' the antenna by rotating it in a vertical position.

I have no idea how or why this works, but then again, I don't know how a woman works either, but that doesn't decrease my enjoyment of them either!

Can't comment on the polarisation of women but can try on antennas ;)

Antennas are indeed configured to work in either a vertical or horisontal pole (or both). So, for best reception you should alway try and match the receiving antenna to the transmitting one. Turn your TV antenna through 90 degrees (while still pointing the same direction) and watch your signal vanish.

In the case of GSM / 3G modems we use Cross-Polarisation to reduce the effect of you holding your phone in your hand while talking. Think of a cross standing upright to get a picture of what the polarisation looks like.

When you place the modem flat, you obviously will still get a signal but when the signal is not that strong to start with, you might see an impact on the signal quality and thus on speeds.

Thus I always advise people to use a longish USB cable and hang your USB modem up as high as possible. This gives you 2 advantages; height and correct polarisation.

Felt the same about my ex-wife, but couldn't find a cable long enough...;)
 
thanks I could use that bit of info, seeing that when I go to my parents place over weekends they have very poor coverage..shot
 
How do i stop the VMC from auto loading when i plug in the modem? I am using MDMA and i don't want VMC to load evrytime i plug it in.
