I once had an angry customer (my brother) so infuriated (didn't want to return his CAT5 [xx(].. dammit I was using it!) that he ripped the kick-n-kaboodle out of the wall (only way he could hurt me was by killing my internet[B)] - he's like twice my size..)
Anyway. The filter (from telkom techie) had wires sticking out and some were ripped clean off the circuit board. Looking at the board, I saw that only 2 wires were fixed to an actual circuit - the other two were soldered onto the <green part>. <i>Knowing </i>that phonelines actually justs use 1 pair.. this made sense (I presume the others are for future use, like in CAT5 UTP 'ethernet' cabling).
I proceeded to fix it.
First, I tried to solder (without a soldering rod!! hey, i'm not an electronics xpert, hence <green part>.. so I used a lighter and heated a paperclip [
]) all 4 wires back on.
- WHAT a mission.
Second, I scrapped that idea, and cut 2 wires (the ones that weren't used) off. It was easier to get the other 2 back on. I ended up not soldering them back @all (hey, you try soldering with a paperclip!!). Everything worked.
I've gotten some spikes upto 700Kbps, but they're very transient. Also I dunno what this did to my avarage connection speed, considering noise, etc. Unsure if packets are being dropped, but it seems fine.
Hack this splinter from my soul.. or tweezer that cateract from ur iBall CL [....]
